Stakeholder Marketing for New Products Audit
Stakeholder Marketing June 2011 Option Two – New Product/Service Launch You are asked to develop a proposal containing a set of recommendations in response to shareholder needs in relation to the introduction of some new product or service into your organisation. You need to write a brief (2 x A4) background to your organisation as is usual. TASK ONE (4 x A4) Audit: (1) This is pretty straightforward: identify and describe portfolio, turnover and markets, could do a directional policy matrix or Boston Consulting Group Matrix. You will need to consider doing something on market segmentation NB – however you might want to represent this. (2) Look at Egan P23. Identify the current marketing mix – state which elements of the 7 Ps are used by your company and how these elements are used to support the marketing plan. (3) Key trends and ‘changing needs’ of Stakeholders. Relate this to Macro PESTEL and MICRO analyses using Stakeholder Mapping. This builds on your previous experience with AME module. You must identify the key trends that may/will influence NPD – what’s changing in the business environment that you might need to respond to. This sets up the options for recommendations later in the proposal. (4) Which stakeholders would be involved (or affected by and then need to be consulted) in the NPD process? You need to audit/research their views / opinions about the opportunities etc…. How interesting might these opportunities be in their eyes…. Think who out of the various stakeholders you would want to involve. It requires you to undertake research into your chosen organisation and its stakeholders. TASK TWO (1) Summary of the audit findings related to the points in the assignment text. This is just a summary of your findings, in an appropriate format, either using models or presented as a series of statements like an executive summary, but I suggest the former idea in preference if you can. (2) Using an appropriate theoretical NPD model relate this to your own NPD process and tie in the stakeholder theory. Stakeholder mapping – expectations etc… EGAN Page23 and P200, also when thinking of Stakeholders you might use the 6Markets model by Christopher. (3) Evaluate PESTEL/MICRO analyses in relation to key trends and again these need relating to the expectations of stakeholders (Internal / Connected / External) affected by / involved in the NPD process. (4) DMU analysis – see EGAN P108-9 and the Coca Cola Case Study P266-269 all about Relationship Management. (5) Propose a new product / service and justify (and relate to) from the audit findings. (6) Propose a new marketing mix that will meet all stakeholder groups’ needs. This is a key section for special attention. (7) How will you measure your plan’s success, i.e. how will you know how well it meets those stakeholders’ expectations?
