Payton Manning has been the best quarterback in the NFL for years, and then two years ago his brother, Eli, grew use he was the MVP of the Superbowl. Motivation and development play an important role in our daily life decisions and personality – books will be written on the motivation and development of the younger Manning. Philosophers Abraham Maslow and Erikson have different theories that are related with human growth. Erikson focuses on ego and its different stages; Maslow focuses on certain needs that humans must achieve to become a fully developed human being. Both concern themselves with why we are as we are, and both are essential in understanding people such as the Mannings.
From a very early age, humans start to develop a virtues and unique personality. In the early years of life, an infant learns very valuable qualities. According to Erikson, hope, will, purpose and competence are the rudiments of virtue developed in childhood (Coles 191). All of these ego-qualities are (cont. for 7 pages)
