The American Revolution: The Battle for Independence
The American Revolution, also known as the U.S. War of Independence, was a political and military conflict between Great Britain and thirteen of its North American colonies that began in 1765 and ended in 1783. The colonies, which formed the Continental Army, were initially outmatched by the powerful British army and navy. The colonies were able to score some key victories early in the war, such as the Battle of Saratoga and the Battle of Bunker Hill. These victories helped to boost morale and gain support from the other colonies and from European countries.
