Qualities of Leadership You See in A Leader Assignment
DQ3-2 responses

Re: Topic 3 DQ 2
In any leadership situation, “the qualities and disposition of the leader influence the servant leadership process” (Northouse, 2019). Individuals bring their own traits and ideas about leading to leadership situations. A leader I admire is my manager Philanta Manuel, the director of finance and patient accounts at the hospital I work for. A powerful female voice who came from India and built herself from the ground up, she inspires me to grow and be a leader myself one day. The qualities this leader possess are honesty, confidence, professionalism, and good work ethic. These qualities are important for a leader to have because a dishonest leader would break promises and most likely not be ethical. A person without confidence would not influence their followers as efficiently. Professionalism allows others to see you as worthy and so they can take you seriously. The most distinct quality I admire about a person is how hard they work. Through the few positions I have acquired, I have seen the lack of desire for success more than ever and the laziness that many employees possess. What inspires me is hard work and dedication and any leader who exemplify this I would definitely be in support.

Q1. Identify the qualities of leadership you see in a leader you admire.
A1. I think that all successful leaders possess some specific qualities that give them the foundation to be a good leader. There have been many leaders in my life, in varied roles, including parent, coach, boss and president to name a few. The characteristics I admire are enthusiasm, charisma, positivity, intellect, caring, helpful and sacrificial.
Q2. Explain why those qualities are important for you to have in a leader.
A2. In my experience, I have found that people that are enthusiastic attract others to want to be around them. In addition, those who possess charisma also keep people interested by their personality and confidence. I learned this trait from friends, who are company owners and just amazing people, but their positivity has helped me to be a better person. Being intelligent is key, because it offers expert power and lets followers have confidence that the leader knows what they are talking about, (Hinkin & Schriesheim, 1989). A leader who cares, makes the followers feel involved and that their trust in the leader is equitable and that they are cared for. Helpful leaders do two things, they bring the leader and follower together and creates equality between them. Finally, a leader who is sacrificial shows that he cares more about the cause and others then themselves.
