Plagiarism and Academic Dishonesty
The Department of Political Science takes cases of plagiarism – the representation of someone else’s work as your own – very seriously. Cases of plagiarism are treated as instances of serious academic misconduct and are investigated and penalized accordingly. Penalties for engaging in plagiarism can include a failing grade in an assignment or course, or even suspension or expulsion from the College. However, plagiarism is also quite easy to do unintentionally, and so to help you to avoid accidental plagiarism, please review the following resources:
- The Department of Political Science has developed a guide, “How to Avoid Plagiarism: An Introductory Guide”; this will be distributed in class. (This guide also contains
information about using the Chicago citation style, so you are strongly encouraged to review it as advanced preparation for this assignment).
- The Langara Library has a web page devoted to plagiarism and its avoidance, which includes documents and videos on the topic, see: https://langara.ca/library/research-help/citing-help/avoid-plagiarism.html
