Hello Class,
The chi-square goodness-of-fit test is also known as 1 x k ( one by kay) that measures only one variable at a time (Tanner, 2016). This test is used to measure a variable and to test how well the variable fits in the set of number. For example, a bakery owner would like to know if there are an equal amount of people buying from them each day.
From what I can remember from previous studies a simple frequency distribution is a table that shows the number of observations within a data set. For example, simple frequency distributions have been used during studies to see the amount of sleep a college student gets within per night over a weeks timeframe. Chi-square goodness-of-fit test and simple frequency distributions are similar because they both measure variables. They differ because one is used to measure how well a variable fit within a data set and the other is used to measure and observe a variable within a data set.
The chi-square test of independence is also known as the Pearson chi-square test aka chi-square and is used to test the hypotheses of variables that are nominal (McHugh, 2013). For example, a chi-square of independence would be used to determine if gender is related to color preference. The chi-square test of independence is similar to chi-square of goodness-of fit test because they both are used to measure the importance in a variable. They differ because one is used to test a hypothesis of a variable and the other is used to test how well the variable fits within a data set.

· Describe the chi-square goodness-of-fit test. Explain what this test measures.
The chi-square goodness-of-fit test is defined as a test that has just on variable but that one variable can have any number of categories that are greater then one (Tanner, 2016). This being said with this test you are able to test one variable which is specific to a study such as healthcare workers but if we were testing the stress levels we can then speak about nurses, CNAs, medical assistants, and doctors. The variable is the healthcare workers but the break down is all that were listed.
· Explain how the chi-square goodness-of-fit test is similar to and different from a simple frequency distribution.
The data that is collected for both of these is displayed differently. The chi-square goodness-of-fit test is shown in a chart while the simple frequency distribution is displayed with a graph.
· Describe the chi-square test of independence. Explain what this test measures and how it is similar to and different from the chi-square goodness-of-fit test.
The chi-square test of independence tests two different variables that can be further broken down into as many different categories as you want. This allows for a researcher or reader to be able to compare and contrast two different variable and also focus on many different other factors that relate to the variables.
· How do you know when to use one analysis over the other?
It is important to know that one analysis has one variable and the other two. When choosing which to use you have to see how many variables and then also see how many categories are involved to make a decision on which to use.
· Provide a real-world example in which either a goodness-of-fit test or a test of independence should be used.
A good example of a test of independent would be a homeless population (male, female, or child) wanting to know if they have access to transportation (public transportation, bike, walking, social service) to get to food banks weekly. There are two variables, the homeless person and the transportation and each of those have numerous subjects under them.
