This is an example:
- How is the concept of equity related to gender roles and parenting?
When incomes to gender roes of equality for female or male don’t believe it is equal or ever will be according to the book. It shows that men have a higher success rate than women and even though it talks about video games improve scores. I believe women can have the same success rate as men.
“When we look into socialization of males and females it seems as if boys and girls simply learn the respective roles and that is all there is to do, but obviously that is not all there is to it.” (Gonzalez-Mena, page 243). When it comes to parenting I was shown both genders of sex that everything is the achievable regardless of sex.
- What behaviors do parents and teachers participate in that may unconsciously send messages to children about their interests and capabilities and why is it important that ECE professionals are aware of these messages?
Children are always watching and observing our action or speech of words that adults say when they are around children. “What makes all this more difficult is that children often see power differential that is determined by gender.” (Gonzalez-Mena, page 254).
The most powerful thing that children see these examples is from the television because some parents let their child watch television without restricting them things they should not be watching at that age. When they see or hear something from adults, teachers, and peers they may think that it is okay to act upon these actions from what they are seeing or what they are hearing.
Sometimes we as parents are even aware that our child is watching or listening. Parents, peers and teachers show behaviors that must be on check and show a good example for these young children to follow. It is important that early childhood development because professionals are there to work with children and should be equipped to help the children learn and grow.
There are four main areas that children should be learning which they are snail and emotional, language/communication, movement/physical development, and cognitive learning that involves learning, thinking and problem-solving. It is important for young children to know all four of those areas as they start to grow because that will help them when they go on in life.
- Why would they be meaningful for your personal life?
The one I would be able to use in my professional life would be “help children develop awareness of sexist stereotypes.”(Gonzalez-Mena, page 258). I would like like to show the children that it is not right that they should not point out people like they are shown at home.
It would be a good thing that children know the sexist when it comes up during school such as books and in the television. There are many ways children could learn that, but parents should also show their children at home so children know that people should not be pointed out like that.
