My favorite motivational theory is the Maslow’s Needs Hierarchy where individuals are driven to achieve based on their five basic needs. Maslow’s theory outlines the requirements that have to be fulfilled for employees to fully display their potential. Workers have to first guarantee their survival and achieving workplace motivation is difficult when they do not have a job security and proper remuneration. All people have specific needs that must be satisfied, psychologically, the employees in my workplace need a supporting environment. They also need safety, a sense of belonging to the company, esteem, and self-actualization. Self-actualization in my workplace requires that employees fully exploit their potential, and it is the responsibility of the management to assist with this.
Employee motivation is the main driving force for enabling workers to meet their objectives. Employers should explore the different internal and external job rewards to ensure their workers’ job satisfaction. Recognition is an important internal reward because employees take pride in having their efforts acknowledged. Employees can be motivated by having their efforts appreciated by their superiors, as well as by their coworkers. When properly used, gratitude towards employees can be mutually beneficial to the employer and the workers. Workers who feel that their input is appreciated are bound to be more productive than those who are given monetary rewards. External rewards such improved working conditions can have a major psychological impact on employees. Workers spend a significant portion of their days at the workplace, consequently, companies have to recognize and reward their employees by offering them the amenities to make their work spaces more comfortable. These amenities include improved lighting, airflow, more space, and the latest hardware in terms of computers and furniture.
