Cardiovascular System Veins and Capillaries Essay
One approach to study human anatomy is based upon the body’s organ systems. You may ask, what is an organ system?
An organ system is a group of organs that function together to produce coordinated effects. There are eleven organ systems in the human body. For example, the cardiovascular system is one of those eleven organ systems and consists of the blood, heart and blood vessel. The following is a list of all eleven organ systems you will find in the human body:
Integumentary System
Skeletal System
Muscular System
Nervous System
Endocrine System
Cardiovascular System
Lymphatic System
Respiratory System
Digestive System
Urinary System
Reproductive System (Male and Female)
The eleven organ systems listed above allow the human body to carry out the essential functions such as growth, movement, responsiveness to our environment, reproduction and excretion of waste. To understand the 11 organ systems of the human body and the essential functions that each of them enable us to perform, please watch this short 10 minute video that gives on overview of the eleven organ systems.
As your wat
ch this video, please note the primary functions and the organ components of each organ system.
Organ System Integration
Assignment Objectives
Demonstrate that you can accurately understand what organ systems are, identify which organs belong to each organ system, and the function of each organ system and how organ systems interact to carry out a specific bodily function.
Instructions
PART 1: DISCUSSING BODY SYSTEM (2.5 POINTS)
Now that you have learned about the eleven body systems in the human body, as well as the organs and functions that each contain, I would like you to pick your favorite body systems and begin to think about this body system in more detail. In your response, include the following details. Please number your response from 1 to 4.
Include all the organs that make up this body system.
Explain how each of the organ’s function help achieve the overall function of the organ system you chose.
Explain why this is your favorite body system.
Give one disease that afflicts this body system and explains what specific organ or organ is affected by this disease.
Initial post due by Wednesday at 11:59pm
PART 2: PEER RESPONSES (5 POINTS)
Once you have written your response, you are to respond to two of your peers’ paragraphs in at least 150 words each. Respond to a posts that have yet to be responded to by a classmate. If everyone’s post has been responded to, then respond to the ones with the least amount of responses. For example, if every student has at least one response, then evaluate the students who only have one or two responses instead of those who have 5 or 6 already.
Be sure to address your peer before responding. In your reply, respond to how your favorite system is needed for your peer’s favorite system to function properly. And the end of your response, describe a disease that afflicts your favorite organ system and the favorite organ system of your peer.
R1: Cardiovascular system
- In the cardiovascular system there is the heart, arteries, veins and capillaries.
- The heart is what is responsible for keeping blood moving throughout the system. Blood is pumped in and out to deliver oxygen throughout the body. This pumping and delivering of blood cannot be done with the arteries, which are responsible for carrying the blood away from the heart. The arteries bring the blood to the capillaries which diffuses gases and nutrient wastes. From the capillaries, blood is brought to the the veins and then brought back to the heart.
- This is my favorite system because I feel it has the most relevant information. Heart problems are very common, especially in my family, so I like to know the physiological aspect of what is happening. Also this system is one of the most important in terms of someones health.
- A disease common in the cardiac system is Arrhythmia. Arrhythmia is when the heart is pumping blood at irregular rates, either too fast or too slow. The heart is affected by this disease when the electrical impulses are not working properly.
R2: The Organ System that I chose is the Nervous System.
Include all the organs that make up this body system. The organs that make up this body system are the brain, spinal cord, nerves to body parts.
- Explain how each of the organ’s function help achieve the overall function of the organ system you chose. The organs help function the body by regulating body activity.
- Explain why this is your favorite body system. This system is one of my favorites because it is the central communication for what helps get our body going by sending signals. Without this system, the human body would be completely useless and the other organ systems would not be able to function without it.
- Give one disease that afflicts this body system and explains what specific organ or organ is affected by this disease. Alzheimer’s disease is one of the diseases that affects the nervous system and more specifically the brain. This is due to the nerve cells in the brain die. When this happens, the brain or nervous system is no longer capable to communicate with the rest of the body. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this and the disease gets worse over time.
