Evaluate your selected case and consider the following objectives for presentation in written analysis and case discussion. Also answer the case questions from the textbook that relate to your selected case.
Case Analysis Objectives/Guidelines
**Do not just restate the company history and write a “report” on the case the book presents. Identify, evaluate and debate the ethical issues, outcomes, alternatives, consequences, etc. based on the following guidelines (Also see Rubric for Ethical Reasoning)
- Outline & summarize the case
- Address key business ethical issues/dilemma & concepts
- Debate the alternatives from the company’s perspective and your own perspective
- Identify the various stakeholder interests
- Identify issues related to social responsibility
- Describe the corporate culture (principles, values, formal & informal), leadership style and role of corporate governance for the business
- Evaluate & discuss if the company had an ethics program, compliance programs, audit of ethics programs, or fraud hotline
- Discuss the decision & rationale of various decisions related to the case, actual or perceived consequences
- Defend a theory, principle or recommended solution for resolving the related ethical issue/dilemma
- ** Make Recommendation based on self-identity or from your own personal perspective of how YOU would evaluate and resolve ethical concerns of the company
- Discuss the outcome & consequences of the business decision(s) and any issues that emerge commonly in dealing with similar issues
- Identify any legal issues related to the case
- Answer case questions from textbook
- Provide any current update to the case
Format for Case Analysis – Basic Guidelines
Written papers will be graded based upon the clarity, depth & presentation of the issues, professionalism, grammar, neatness and organization. The criteria in the grading rubric will score ethical reasoning/analysis of issue, professional writing/communication, and writing mechanics/accuracy = total of 50 points. See attached rubric for the grading areas that will be assessed for each written case.
Each case analyzed should comprise a written element as follows:
Include the objectives listed above and prepare a 2-3 page written analysis (2-3 page body, not including cover page or reference page if used)of the case that addresses the elements identified
Cover page with student name, instructor name, class information (GBUS 450 Business Ethics), case name & number, and date
Double spaced with numbered pages
1 inch margins
12 point font size
Be free of spelling errors, written in formal language appropriate for the business professional environment
Identify any outside sources (other than textbook) used to identify issues or current case update. Include Works Cited page to reference outside sources to show readers where you found your information. Use MLA style format for works cited page – see example at this website: www.workscited4u.com/mlaformat.html
