Description: In this assignment, students will view the documentary True Cost and apply the content to A) their own consumption and B) class content. Students are expected to answer each point of content below in a manner that indicates they did, in fact, view the documentary (part 1), conduct the field observation (part 2) and review the text chapters (part 3). NOTE: this assignment is multi-faceted and is expected to require increments of time over several weeks. Do not wait until the due date to start working on this task. This exercise mimics how the documentary would be viewed and discussed in a physical classroom over several sessions. Any questions or comments along the way can be discussed with the instructor via email or video chat. The documentary, True Cost, is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.
Submission & Grading: Students should type a response on this worksheet and submit via Blackboard via the “Week of April 5” folder. This assignment is worth 1/3 of your “ADT” grade (which is 15% of your final course grade) and will be scored out of a maximum 100 points.
PART 1: Notes from the documentary
- Describe, in detail, the issue(s) being presented in this documentary.
- The focal point. What are we meant to see as the big issue causing a lot of problems?
- Stakeholder impacts. Identify four industries that impact the main issue you have identified in part a.
- Where does the issue originate? (What/who is causing or perpetuating the issue?)
- After considering your points above, what are the pros and cons of globalized production, as presented in the documentary?
PART 2: Field Observation & Reflective Thought
