For some students, conducting statistical analysis can be a daunting task. Statistical analysis, on the other hand, is an important part of social work research because it allows researchers to link interventions to client outcomes. The task of mathematical computations is made easier with statistical analysis software. It is the responsibility of the social worker to select the appropriate research design and statistical analysis.

Statistical analysis software is a useful tool for researchers who need to perform complex calculations. However, in order to effectively use such a tool, the study must be well-designed. All of the relationships in the study must be understood by the social worker. He or she must be aware of the study’s objectives and choose the most appropriate design. The social worker must accurately represent the relationship under investigation as well as the variables at play. Finally, he or she must correctly enter those variables into the software program. This assignment will allow you to examine the decisions made in the case study “Social Work Research: Chi Square” in depth, as well as the relationship between study design and statistical analysis. Assume that the data has been entered into SPSS and that the chi-square results have been given to you. (For more information, see the Week 4 Handout: Chi-Square Results.)

By the seventh day,
Please submit a one-page paper that includes the following:
An examination of the relationship between the study design and the statistical analysis used in the case study, which includes the following:
An explanation of why you believe the agency should have developed a plan to evaluate the program.
An explanation of why the social work agency in the case study decided to use a chi square statistic to see if there was a difference between those who participated in the program and those who did not (Hint: Think about the level of measurement of the variables)
A description of the research design for each group in terms of observations (O) and interventions (X).
Interpret the data from the chi-square test. What conclusions can be drawn from the data about the program?
