You will provide a critical critique of five television adverts in this essay.
The length of your essay should be 3-4 pages (not including title page, works cited, and statement of originality).
1. Select any commercial-supported television network. Select any form of show you enjoy, such as a sporting event, a soap opera, a comedy, a movie, or the news. Play five adverts back-to-back. Commercials can also be found on YouTube. If that’s the case, the adverts must have been shown in the United States recently (within the last year).
2. Analyze the ads and compose your essay using the principles presented in Chapters 6-7 of the textbook. (You can also use what you’ve learned in previous chapters and discussions, but you’ll need to apply essential concepts from Chapters 6 and 7.)
3. Create a title for your essay.
4. Begin by writing an introduction. Include the television show, channel, and date that the adverts aired.
5. Think about who the commercial appears to be aimed at. Is it positioned to appeal to specific social identities, or does it look to target a broad, diversified audience? (Race, ethnicity, national identity, gender, sexuality, age, religion, occupation, and other social identities are examples.)
