it means to think about the agency (as discussed in Chapter 4) of small-scale farmers.

Ive heard about fair trade back in high school and understanding it a lot more in this video has given me thoughts about how important it is to smaller businesses to create more income. The hours that are put into labor for producing coffee should be well thought of how much the price should be paid. Paying low wages for hard workers is selfish and unfair.3. What else seemed really important in this documentary and why did it seem important?
I think that fairtrade for workers and working towards being environmentally friendly when producing coffee is important. Especially for small scale farmers, most of them do their own independent labor to bring their goods to the cooperative that they work with other farmers together to sell to the international markets. The cooperative is a great idea to have because they work for economic and social needs and empower their communities.

Trying to be environmentally friendly for producing coffee reminded me how a fashion designer made a garment that is completely made out of bacteria. The designer decided to make a full dress made from bacteria because its more sustainable than using fabrics. The designer tries to find alternative ways how the environment can be saved by using sources that wont cause any pollution or chemicals in the process of making clothes. Because coffee is almost the same way, small-scale farmers would have to find ways to be sustainable with their farming.5. What surprised you in this documentary? Why was this surprising for you?
What surprised me in this documentary was that in the 1970s a new coffee was developed that needed direct sunlight and that rainforests began to be cut down to make giant coffee farms. This has a high environmental cost such as depleting soil and using heavy chemicals. 60% have been deforested for coffeelands and that conventional coffee has been sprayed with lots of chemicals. I thought that it was sad to hear that forests had to be cut down to make more coffee farms. Demand for coffee is really high overseas and especially in America.6.
