Research Paper Guidelines
Undergraduate 2020
Your paper must be a minimum of SIX pages, not including the title/cover page and bibliography.
Follow the Chicago Manual of Style for citations (use footnotes) and bibliography.
The bibliography must contain a minimum of eight items. I repeat 8 items. Among those items:a. One must be a monograph (a book devoted solely to one topic).
b. Two must be articles from scholarly journals.
c. You may use only one encyclopedia or standard reference work.
d. Only one Internet site is allowed, and it must be scholarly nature in nature.
e. Your textbooks cannot be used as a source.
f. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in a failing grade.
Count your sources. Do you have EIGHT? You must have EIGHT! That is the minimum number of sources.
4. Quotations should be kept to a bare minimum. Block quotations are not permitted due to the short nature of the paper. The footnotes should contain text only on rare occasions. Text should be limited to crucial clarifications and should be minimized.
5. The submitted paper should be double-spaced with one-inch margins and include a cover/title page, footnotes, and bibliography as per Chicago Manual of Style.
Follow the Chicago Manual of Style for style, format, citations, and bibliography.
It is imperative that you select your topic and begin your research early. The library may not possess the materials you need. In fact, chances are, you will need to order some items through interlibrary loan, and this can take several weeks. Please consult a librarian if you are unsure of how to begin the process of identifying appropriate material. Please consult me if you have any questions about sources and the writing process. Most importantly, if you have any doubts about the sources you have chosen, check with me.
