Systemic Perspective and Social Change (discussion)
“Clients are affected by and in constant dynamic interactions with other systems, including families, groups, organizations, and communities,” Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman (2016) wrote (p. 35-36). When you address the needs of an individual client as a social worker, you also consider the systems with which the client interacts. You can better assess your client’s situation by learning more about these systems. These systems may offer assistance to the client or may contribute to the client’s current issue.
Review “Working With People With Disabilities: The Case of Lester” for this discussion.
Consider the systems with which the client, Lester Johnson, interacts. Consider how you could apply a systems approach to his case. Consider the importance of the systems perspective in general for social work.
On Day 3,
Create a Discussion in which you explain how multiple systems interact to affect people. Explain how you might use a systems perspective in your work with Lester Johnson as a social worker. Finally, discuss how a systems perspective can be applied to social work practice.
