Social issues Assignment in Sociology
Your Research Paper gives you the opportunity to use the knowledge and skills you’ve gained in this course to investigate a current societal issue. You will investigate two’sides,’ or opposing opinions, on two distinct methods of describing or framing the issue, as well as two opposing beliefs about the cause of the problem and possible solutions. You will gain a deeper knowledge of the social issue as well as the methods we characterize issues, or ‘create’ social problems, by selecting multiple opinions.
You will be able to collaborate with your peers. As you conduct your research, you can exchange research, thoughts, questions, and responses with your Peer Review Group. After you’ve finished your research, prepare a report that summarizes your findings and focuses on how you describe the problem, including framing the problem and proposing remedies. You’ll also talk about the reliability of the sources you utilized to research the concerns, as well as what you think of their statements.
On your Peer Review Discussion Board, you will upload a very rough draft of your work. This should be more than a rough draft but not quite a completed paper. Your Peers will read your posted draft and will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding your research and findings, as well as provide suggestions for terms, phrases, or themes that they believe should be included in your paper. Peer review will not involve a look at the draft’s style, grammar, spelling, format, or quality. These Reviews will be used to complete your final paper; you should integrate input as needed.
Important: To get a score for your Final Paper, you must complete all four processes by the deadline. These procedures are: 1) writing a proposal, 2) creating an annotated bibliography, 3) submitting a draft for peer review on your designated Peer Discussion Board, and 4) peer reviewing (providing your feedback) each of the papers your assigned peers have posted. You must include the feedback from the Peer Reviews into your final article (use their suggestions and feedback as appropriate). The following sections will make up your final paper:
Introduction to your topic, including the problem, data on how big of a problem it is, how many people it affects, and why it is significant.
From your investigation, present both sides or ways the topic is framed. You should clearly offer two different perspectives/frameworks on the issues.
Examine the two points of view. You can either evaluate each one as you present it, or you can present both and then analyze both. Make sure your analysis of the issues is based on what you’ve learnt in class and what you’ve discovered through your investigation. Include a discussion of the solutions they propose.
Conclusion: What is the best approach to construct this issue – which viewpoint/frame (or perhaps a combination of viewpoints) is the greatest way to understand it? Why should we use whatever solution or solutions?
