Background
BB is a sixty-five-year-old who was presented in the hospital where I worked part-time to exacerbate his COPD. Based on the patient’s medical history extracted from Electronic Health Record (EHR), BB had a history of systolic heart failure, diabetes and he was surviving through the two liters of pure oxygen by nasal cannula through the family nurse intervention his home. The patent was responsive, and she was ready to communicate every situation she was passing through. Through effective communication, I provided education to him and his family members through the experience through a review of charts when I was working as a CAN.
Noticing
The main thing I noticed is that BB was always oriented and alert. Although he was experiencing cracks sound in his lungs due to the disease, she was mentally alert when I asked questions. For instance, she was aggressive in answering the pain; he requested pain injection since his legs were paining. Upon his request, I provided morphine sulfate to reduce the pain. When I spent more time with BB, I noticed he was appreciative, particularly after his pain reduced and was keen to follow all the instructions I provided.
Interpretation
Through the interaction, I thought that the patient was aggressive in accessing medication. Medication is an important activity when managing any illness. I got to understand how medication and adhering to prescriptions is critical when I worked as CNA. One the college forgot to administer insulin and other morning medicine to a patient during the morning period. Additionally, the patient did not remind the nurse about the medication, and the patient’s sugar level became very high. Since I did not like the same situation to happen to my client, I started preparing medication for BB.
Conclusion
Initially, the patient had complained of sleepless nights. The man data that I gathered is that after providing the Morphine sulfate injection, the patient could sleep comfortably without any complain the following day. People have sleepless nights due to excessive pain (Fatemi, Amirteimoury, Shamsizadeh & Kaeidi, 2018).
Responding
Based on my client, I diagnosed vital signs based on evidence-based practice to provide due medication. To prevent infectious diseases, I observed all the hygiene measures before and after attending to my client. My main goal was to make sure that I manage the COPD condition based on the physician’s order. I provided the privacy of the client by identifying myself and the client using a band. Privacy of clients is mandatory based on the HIPAA rules and regulations. Before providing the medication, I ensure that the patient was not allergic to any drug I was administering. I documented all the critical processes such as the dosage, patient’s name, time and routine. Although I was stressed, I ensured that the patient trusts me by explaining every procedure and side effect of every medication. I also checked the expiry date of every medicine before administering it to BB. My objective was to provide the medication with error. Additionally, I informed the family members about the side effect of some drugs.
Reflection
Based on the reflection on my action through interaction with BB, I provided the utmost comfortable care. I ensure that the patient was adhering to the medication prescribed. I was aggressive in managing the pain of the patient by offering a Morphine sulfate injection. The most important thing I learnt it is critical to explore the chart during the diagnosis process. There are various things I would do differently if I would face a patient with a similar condition in future. First, I would educate family members and patients (Mackie, Marshall & Mitchell, 2018). I will offer more comforts to the patient, for example, through regular checkups. Thirdly, I would advise the patient to use the emerging technology and consult me at the comfort of their home when having challenges. One main change of my value is that I feel confident in administering medication to future patients.
