1.1
The assessment brief specifically asks you to use an analysis tool. You need to use either SWOT and/or PESTLE analysis tools to assess factors that may impact on Baker’s Department Store’s approach to reward now and in the future. You must show this in a table format. Remember to show both internal and external factors. From undertaking the SWOT or PESTLE you need to give a fully focused commentary – a written section on what you show in the SWOT or PESTLE. A lot of what you have written is in general and not focused around Baker’s approach to reward now and in the future.
Resubmission – Good detail has been shown on internal factors. You only show the Equality Act and pay rates/trends for external factors. You should have been considering factors like Covid-19, inflation, competitors, Brexit, furlough, people purchasing online, etc.
1.2
You need to start this section showing a cited definition on the meaning of reward intelligence. At the moment with what you have written is not fully clear. You have shown some internal factors to highlight ways in which reward intelligence can be gathered and presented.
You need to add 3 external sources of information showing a thorough understanding of what the information is you can obtain and how this information can be used to make decisions about reward. Also consider how reliable the sources are? Can you trust the data – you need to add the pros and cons of using the information. How can the information be used to inform reward decisions?
Resubmission – You need to relook at this section again. Most of what you have written is not relevant. You briefly mention market surveys, external benchmarking, reviewing published job advertisements, or engaging with other employers. You need to show how you would benchmark – where would you find this data – what is the source. From this show the advantages and disadvantages of using the information to make decisions about reward. You need to do the same for job adverts and market surveys.
2.1 & 2.3
I liked that you discussed how total reward should be made up including non-financial and financial incentives in which you were able to explain the aim of it around motivation of employees. You have included an analysis around the benefits of implementing a total rewards strategy. You have shown a clear understanding on how to implement a total reward approach.
You need to explain the top priorities for Bakers.
Resubmission – What you have written about the top priorities does not make sense. You have stated the financial reward Bakers have at the moment. Are you changing this? If so, please explain more on what you mean. What would you do regarding non-financial reward?
2.2
You have shown some understanding on the importance of equity, fairness, consistency and transparency when rewarding employees. You need to evidence your understanding on the academic theory on equity and motivation to strengthen your argument by quoting the psychological contract and Adam’s theory. This must be clearly related to equity and fairness in the workplace. You then need to considered legislation by quoting the Equality Act and the gender pay gap reporting. You could give an example of what can go wrong if an organisation does not treat people equitably by quoting the BBC.
You need to show ways a company can ensure it operates fairly and transparently around reward.
Resubmission – Good details have been shown. You need to show ways a company can ensure it operates fairly and transparently around reward.
3.1
This section that needs developing a little further. You need to look at this section more in theory rather than focusing on Bakers. You need to consider the managers’ role on both financial and non-financial rewards. Add an analysis of Purcell’s AMO Model and how managers can use this to contribute to reward decisions. Give a business example like John Lewis – please ensure it is specific to how their managers contribute to reward decisions in their organisation.
You need to show more detail on how HR can support managers.
Resubmission – Clear detail has been added on Purcell’s AMO Model. You did not address any of the other feedback from above. Give a business example like John Lewis – please ensure it is specific to how their managers contribute to reward decisions in their organisation. You need to consider the managers’ role on financial rewards. You need to show more detail on how HR can support managers.
3.2
You included relevant information around the meaning on both extrinsic and intrinsic reward. You need to give more detail on assessing the contribution of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards to improving employee contribution and sustained organisation performance. Is one more important than the other? You could quote from the MacLeod’s ‘Engaging for Success’ report. The link is: https://engageforsuccess.org/the-four-enablers. Remember to link this to the question being asked – extrinsic and intrinsic reward. Also give a business example like Google showing how they use extrinsic and intrinsic rewards and the outcome of this on organisation performance.
Resubmission – Please relook at my feedback above.
You have included a basic conclusion showing a summary of your recommendations for the Board to consider.
