Crowdfunding Project:
Students will research some of the current crowdfunding platforms and provide three options for investing money or pre-purchasing a product.
Students will have to choose from two of the three types of crowdfunding sites available:
A. A crowdfunding platform that allows people to invest in a company in exchange for stock.
B. A crowdfunding platform that allows people to lend money to entrepreneurs. Peer-to-peer lending is another term for this type of lending. This is not peer-to-peer lending, in which one person lends another money to buy a stereo.
C. A website where you may help an entrepreneur by donating money in exchange for a reward, usually a product pre-purchase. (Kickstarter)
Because the conditions for accessing the information on some peer-to-peer lending opportunities alter, you don’t have to use this type of site if you find it difficult. You must still present THREE opportunities, but they can only come from A and C if you choose.
The task does not need you to research crowdfunding platforms; rather, you must choose firms or concepts that you believe merit investment, as well as entrepreneurs you intend to assist via pre-purchase. This is the subject of your paper. You write about three separate firms once more.
Students will write a five-to-nine-page report on the following topics:
1. The product or company that they chose to invest in or pre-purchase. Students should discuss why they chose the firm and/or product they did. Students should provide the following information:
What attracted them to the company?
Why do they believe this product or firm will succeed?
Investment or gift terms for a reward site
2. Students should talk about:
The product’s market potential.
The product’s and company’s advantages
Potential competition, in which you assess how the product/company stacks up against the competition.
Any other variables.
3. Provide a link to the website.
4. At the end of the report, students should write a two-to-three-page reflection in which they must discuss:
What they learned as a result of finishing the task
How crowdfunding is being used by entrepreneurs
The types of pitches used by entrepreneurs, and so on. Why?
What surprised, interested, and was relevant to the students.
5. To receive an excellent (A) or (A+) grade, pupils must:
Read the content, discover crowdfunding articles, and compare and contrast what they’ve learned, what they agree with, what’s new, and so on.
Incorporate textual material into their contemplation. This isn’t about regurgitating knowledge; it’s about thinking about what’s written and contrasting it with your own views and results.
Use information from our optional films or other sources to supplement your presentation. Students who write an excellent paper will read five or more articles on crowdfunding and use that material in their paper.
Tips/Help:
Students have always asked the instructor, “Where do I acquire this information?” in the past. To avoid this, I will suggest the following: Assume you’re working on a job assignment for which you’ve been given specific directions and it’s up to you to find the information. If I were a student, I’d start with Google, then talk to my classmates and/or family about it, study the textbook, and make sure to read internet articles. That’s exactly what I’d do. You are free to find this material in whatever way you want, and I will leave it up to you to figure out the best way to do the task.
Students should be aware of the various types of crowdfunding sites available and the variations between them. You won’t be able to finish this project with just one financing platform.
