PL 200 Interview Paper Assignment
Hassan is the name of the person I chose to interview (My husband)
“Honesty between the past and now” is the topic I chose.
I chose this topic because it is one in which I am interested, and I am confident that my husband will be as well. Also, people used to value honesty highly, but now I don’t believe people are as honest as they once were, and most people believe lying is acceptable in some circumstances. (Make sure you answer the questions in the assignment so you can describe his environment and how it influenced his worldview.)
Each student will conduct an interview with a mentor they consider to be a family member, friend, or acquaintance. The student will write a 3-4 page essay about the interview after it has taken place. The paper should be typed in Times New Roman 12 point font with one inch margins.
The purpose of this paper is for the student to gain knowledge about their mentor’s background (time and place in history). How has the mentor’s worldview been shaped by their circumstances? The following is a list of questions to ask during the interview; students are free to ask more. Interviews can take place in person, over the phone, or via video call.
What was it like growing up for you?
Right now, what is the most important thing in your life?
What path did you take to get to where you are now? (This could be a reference to the person’s job or other important activities.)
Have you been guided by a religious belief or a philosophy of life? If that’s the case, could you please share it with me?
What was a major event in your life that changed or shaped the way you thought about the world (this can be a personal event or a much larger, national or global event)? (For instance, some people may discuss the birth of a child, the death of a loved one, or even larger events like wars or terrorist attacks.) It is possible for events to be either bad’ or good.’) Please describe the event’s impact.
Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for me?
Please take the following notes after the interview:
-The paper should not consist solely of a list of the questions’ answers. Please incorporate the questions into your paper so that the reader has a better understanding of your mentor’s background and worldview.
-At least a paragraph should be dedicated to explaining why you chose the person to interview at the start of the paper. Who is this person to you, and how has their presence influenced your life?
-In the middle (longest) section of the paper, explain what you learned about your mentor. Please paint a picture of who this person is, not just list the answers to the questions.
-Answer the following questions in the paper’s conclusion: What impact has this person’s environment had on their perspective of the world? What would you say is the gist of their worldview? How has your interview changed your perspective on your mentor?
