Question Paper on Nursing Case Study
Scenario: Hi, I’m Isabella. Scenario: I am 72 years old and a widow very recently, 6 months ago, after my husband Ben’s death. I must tell you that this life stuff wasn’t simple for me. But I always thought you have to take care of yourself. I do as much as I can even when situations get hard. Sometimes I could be a bit unorganized, so don’t ask me what day it is!
Back when Ben got sick, we agreed that it is best for me to quit working so that I can take care of him. I enjoyed my Sears work. I’ve been working there for more than 20 years when my daughter was in high school in Sandra. I enjoyed to be with people and assist them find exactly what they wanted.
Ben could still do things for himself at first. He had his little tasks to do every day. He would get up and read the news, go down to the tiny dinner for coffee and converse with all his pals. We would go to doctors’ appointments in the afternoon and make the shopping and other courses. He was still handy in the house. As time went on, Ben got a bit sicker every day and I did it all for him last year. I have to tell you I’ve been tired and run down, could never sleep or have a restful meal through the night.
Our daughter, Sandra, as busy with her own lifea it’s disaster and allwould still be trying to help her. Normally, once a week, she would come here and remain with her father while I go to mass or have a cup of tea with a friend. Her daughters would come to their “pa-pop” and sit alongside him, and read their stories. During those trips, the smile on his face improved the whole day.
Ben’s medicines and equipment were very, very costly. Since he was working for the Railroad, he now had quite a good retirement pension and health benefits, but they would not cover all costs even once Medicare was retired. Soon we were almost totally out of money. We possessed an old automobile outside the house.
One day, one of my neighbors told me about a program that helped a sister in another state, PACE. She claimed they were doing fantastic things both for the patient and for the wife. Well I asked Sandra about it, and she checked at the library’s computer and discovered that PACE had a program, Total Long-term Care. Well, Ben called TLC and somebody went out to talk to us about it. We completed the paperwork to check if we could, and we were! Everybody was so helpful!
They told us that TLC is going to look after Ben’s medication and equipment, his physicians are even going to give him a visit and spend some hours. They would pick him up and bring him home for visits or medical appointments. The social worker, Cindy, urged me to send someone to help clean up the house and take care of his needs during the days he was at home. They helped me tell you so much!
But now, with Ben’s death, I’m back to every dime. My medication for arthritis is over one hundred bucks a month. I’m trying to keep the medications. But if, as the doctor recommends, I bought them all, I would be broke. So I break them halfway or save a day to help stretch them. Sandra told me I ought to have Part D insurance for my medicines, but it’s too confusing and intimidating for me.
See, Sandra has been assisting me since my Ben died. I’ve never even written a check before because Ben has always done it. But now he’s gone, there’s not enough money for food, medicine, taxes and all. However, I think Sandra is snatching me since I think I ought to have enough money. But I can’t dispute much about that bank account, and I have to do what she says, as I don’t know very much about it.
In just last week, Sandra and the girls moved. But I fear Sandra is robbing me now. She came home from shopping or from job or anything, right now I certainly don’t remember. Well, it was shopping because she would grab her shopping bags out of the trunk. To check what she was doing, I came to the door. I observed that the mail was in the front door box. I opened a bill and indicated it was due over $100! How can $100 be? She shouldn’t pay the bills. I just had to notify her when she purchased more goods, but did not pay my payments.
See, she continues to tell me lies. I can’t just take it anymore. She’s getting too big for her British I tell you, since if I didn’t like it, she told me that I could go. I informed her that she needed a good spanking right then and there. Oh, the neighbors heard it okay. And the police phoned me too. They know. They know. I bet one of their kids robs them too. But first Sandra had to talk to the cops. And get this, they arrested me, they arrested me! How humiliating! How humiliating!
I’ve spent the night in prison. I was so upset and frightened. My sister, Rosella, arrived and pulled me out of jail, Sandra’s first fault, then Sandra did so that I couldn’t go home! It’s been the last straw. I was fainting and rushed to the emergency department. They claimed this morning I had a panic attack. Somebody from the social services came to me when I was in jail, but I said I would live rather than go with my sister. Now the spouse of my sister won’t allow me stay there. I could only think of calling Cindy, the TLC woman who was so helpful with Ben. This afternoon, she will meet me and Sandra at the house.
