Psychodynamic Theories in Social Work Practice
In regards to the psychodynamic theories the infant’s behaviors or activities might influence the adulthood relationship or the social/emotional functioning in many divers manner. Due to the fact that we are all born with inferiority there is a push that is facilitated by life activities in order to become superior in future (Bliss & Rasmussen, 2013). The theory also provides that birth order influences the development of our personality in the family for example the first born will develop inferiority later in life due to the arrival of younger siblings and, Last-borns are pampered so much such that they may feel that they have less power to influence hence developing an inferiority complex. The psychological theory provides that there are some diverse challenges that children must overcome in their early stages that might have a significant influence to the future life. With examples like during the age of 0-1 there is high need to trust someone or else this will make you be fearful in life. At an age of 1-3 years, he/she have to build up independence or else he will turn out to be disgraceful later in life (Mishna, Van Wert & Asakura, 2013).
From a personal point of view I discovered that the psychodynamic theories are consistent with the social work ethics and values. For example, social work values provide that they should incorporate the significance of human relationship when serving a customer. This is the similar case with psychodynamic approaches since they point out on the significance of infancy connection and experiences and how this influences an individual afterward in life (Mishna, Van Wert & Asakura, 2013). When serving the clients, it is vital for social workers to think about diverse thoughts portrayed in psychodynamic theories because they control their judgments (Bliss & Rasmussen, 2013).

Hey great post!
As a social worker, I believe focusing on helping others understand the change that comes along as they grow within their lifespans is important. If this was a situation for an actual client of mine, I would assist this family by helping them learn and understand the different aspects of social change and how functional it is while providing resource to assist them with guidance to reach stability. As a social worker, we would need to find ways to resolve the changes of influences that will advance the development of client functioning. It’s our job to help individuals with social change and with their wellbeing. Infancy might shape and affect future relationships and social emotional functioning that can affect them when they become adults.
Primitive body images from early developmental stages may later result in self-destructive behavior as an adult” (Robbins, Chatterjee, & Canda, 2012).

Hi,
I agree the psychodynamic theories are useful in the client-therapist relationship. When writing about object relations theory McCluskey (2010) agreed with another researcher that in using this theory that it could provide (McCluskey, 2010) “…’a new way to look at the therapeutic encounter,’ providing of course that the clinician maintains awareness of the unique ‘psychological strengths, vulnerabilities, past experiences, and social and cultural influences’ embodied by the client.” (p. 436). Your point of it being useful for the client is encompassed in social work values and ethics.
When I first read about object relations theory my feminist tendencies were a bit alarmed but in looking at it closer I began to realize that I needed to look at its original meaning in the sociohistorical context in which it was first presented. Today there are a large number of single parents (male and female) who raise and nurture their children successfully. As I looked at the theory further I began to understand it’s relational merits within the client-social worker partnership.
