How Does Your Community Measure Up When It Comes to Healthcare Options?
In your community, what types of acute and long-term healthcare services are available? Is there a disparity in the sorts of care services accessible to residents in the community? What effect do various healthcare services have on people’s health and the health of the community as a whole?A community’s health depends on having access to a diversity of healthcare services. Communities that offer a wide range of healthcare services are better able to address the requirements of their residents. Because of the peculiarities of the population, some towns may have a greater demand for certain sorts of services. In communities with a significant senior population, for example, more long-term care services are required. In Week 4, you’ll go deeper into the topic of healthcare access.
For this assignment, you will investigate the various types of acute and long-term healthcare services available in your town, as well as any service gaps. You’ll also discuss how these services (or their lack thereof) may affect the health of residents in your town. To display your findings, you will develop a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation.
To get ready for this assignment, do the following:
Review the Learning Resources for this week’s (Week 2) acute healthcare facilities and services, as well as next week’s (Week 3) long-term healthcare facilities and services (Week 3).
Identify the healthcare facilities and services in your neighborhood (both acute and long-term).
Gather details on the many healthcare options you’ve chosen, such as services, coverage, and accessibility.
Review the “2018Healthiest Communities Rankings” from U.S. News & World Report, which may be found in the Learning Resources section.
The Challenge
Consider yourself a member of a community health advocacy group whose aim is to promote community access to comprehensive, high-quality healthcare. The organization has asked you to create a presentation for the city council that will outline the community’s current healthcare facilities and services, any gaps in services, and the impact of those services or the absence thereof on the community.
Without the title and reference slides, the presentation should be 6 to 8 slides long. Each PowerPoint (PPT) slide (excluding the title, objectives, and references slides) should have talking points in the Speaker Notes portion of the PPT that serve as a narration script for the slides. The talking points should be prepared as though they will be read aloud throughout the presentation while the slides are being displayed. You should also include information about your community’s health rankings, which you may find on the interactive website of U.S. News & World Report’s “2018 Healthiest Communities Rankings.”
As part of the Assignment, you are not required to submit a recorded audio narration.
The Walden Writing Center and Learning Resources have tutorials on how to make a PowerPoint presentation and add to the “Speaker Notes” portion.
Slide with the title
The title of the presentation, your name, and the date should all be included.
The following are the goals of the presentation: (1 slide)
23 SMART objectives should be included (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely).
Part 1 (23 slides): Acute Care Facilities
In your town, provide both standard and alternative acute care choices. Instead of naming specific facilities or services, categorize the care alternatives. Most towns, for example, have many PCPs. Don’t make a list of every service provider. Instead, say there are five primary care physicians, two hospitals, three urgent care clinics, and so on.
Provide detailed, helpful information on each type of facility or service, such as what they have to offer, coverage alternatives, and accessibility.
Explain how acute care facilities and services affect individual and community health. Provide examples of both acute and chronic health issues.
Provide talking points in the PowerPoint’s “Speaker Notes” section.
In the slides and in the “Speaker Notes” section, cite and reference content.
Part 2 (23 slides): Long-Term Facilities
Make long-term care choices available in your community. Instead of specifying specific facilities or services, categorize the care options in the same way you did with acute care options.
Provide detailed information on each facility or service, such as what they have to offer, coverage alternatives, and accessibility.
Explain the impact of long-term care facilities and services on the health of individuals and communities. Provide examples of both acute and chronic health issues.
Provide talking points in the PowerPoint’s “Speaker Notes” section.
In the slides and in the “Speaker Notes” section, cite and reference content.
Part 3: Recommendations and Gaps in Healthcare Services (12 slides)
Describe any gaps in your community’s healthcare services, as well as the impact those gaps may have on individual and community health. NOTE: Even if you are unable to find any shortages in your community’s healthcare, you must nonetheless propose specific healthcare services that would benefit your community (see next bullet).
Make specific recommendations for services that you believe might fill up the gaps.
Include your community’s health rankings from the interactive website “2018 Healthiest Communities Rankings” from U.S. News & World Report.
Provide talking points in the PowerPoint’s “Speaker Notes” section.
Part 4: Bibliography
Use the Learning Resources and at least one independent scholarly source to back up your claims.
You must also cite and reference any photos you use from the Internet.
APA style requirements must be followed for all in-text citations and references.
