This final project is intended to demonstrate your understanding of the concepts covered in this course. You will build your own television program concept for this project, with unlimited creative freedom to pursue anything interests you. It is divided into three sections: the bible, the pitch, and a conclusion.
THE BIBLE OF THE PROGRAM
The following sections should be documented as a narrative in memo style in the program bible for your initial program design. Your finished story will most likely be 6 pages long.
What is the title of this program (a one-paragraph description that includes the title and genre of your show)? What is your show’s tone, style, and voice?
What is your show’s theme (the overarching, universal question that your program explores)?
What are the names of the characters?
What is the setting and where is it located?
What are the parents of this software (previous programs that are similar)?
What is the plot summary for the pilot episode?
What plot threads may the first season have?
What plot ideas do you see for future seasons?THE PITCH FOR THE PROGRAM
Make a short presentation proposing your program concept as if you were pitching your idea to an investor or a network in 244 seconds for your original show. This might be done with a powerpoint presentation with 10 slides or less. It’s quite OK if you want to take a different approach to your presentation (a video, for example). Make sure your presentation is both original and brief. Some of the following will most likely be included in your pitch content (choose what is relevant to your concept; there is no need to be exhaustive):
The rationale for the program’s creation
The new series may be able to solve the network problem.
The new program’s ability to give a network solution
The incentive to take action right now
The competition on television and how the new series will fit into it
Cast, narrative, and setting information for the series
Information about the production crew your ideal group of producers, writers, directors, and videographersYOUR EXAMINATION
Include a personal reflection on your experience developing a new program concept in this project’s final section. Write this as a story, including any insights or thoughts that come to mind. You may have noticed that each assignment includes a section for reflection. Adult learners, according to research, acquire information more deeply and meaningfully when they reflect on their own learning experience.
Your bible and reflection should be merged into a single document in word or pdf format. Depending on what works best for your end-product, attach it or include a link in your creative pitch.
