The connection between unemployment and price hikes in an economy is described by the Phillips Curve, a concept in economics. It shows that there is a lieu between these two factors, with inflation often being higher when unemployment is high and vice versa. The economist A.W. Phillips developed the Phillips Curve in the 1950s, and it quickly gained popularity as a tool for regulators to comprehend the relationships between inflation on unemployment.

The first version of the Phillips Curve showed that the rate of unemployment and the corresponding rate of inflation in wages were inversely related. It was indicated that when joblessness was low, employment conditions tightened, pushing wages up and ultimately pushing up prices overall, leading to higher inflation.
