INITIAL QUESTION:
- Locate and post a pdf or link of an official governmental healthcare policy. What governmental agency has stewardship over this policy? How has the policy changed over time? What are the consequences of failure to comply with the policy? What steps would need to be followed to alter the policy? Identify the links between this policy, clinical practice and organizational, population, and fiscal issues.
- Take a moment to think of the potential impact that the policy you are exploring could have on a vulnerable population. Try to find a news story or blog post through internet search that discusses an actual case where this policy will make an impact (positive or negative). Complete the following learning activities with regard to this scenario:
- Provide a link to the news story or blog and then summarize the scenario you found.
- Summarize the nurse’s role in this situation.
- In what ways could the nurse play a role in system or policy development/evaluation to promote a positive patient outcome in this scenario?
- How can nurses collaborate with other disciplines to influence healthcare policy?

What governmental agency has stewardship over this policy?
By the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress (Congress. gov 2020)
How has the policy changed over time? What are the consequences of failure to comply with the policy? What steps would need to be followed to alter the policy?
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010, and it is known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) (Shi, & Singh, 2019). The ACA significantly changed the healthcare system in the U.S. by reducing the amount individuals and families paid in uncompensated care. Then added the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) was designed to make health insurance available to those that have been denied coverage by private insurance companies because of a pre-existing condition (E Health Insurance, 2013). After 90 days, a government website is created to allow people to search for information about health insurance companies, available plans, and other essential facts. Then added that young adults can stay on their parent’s insurance until age 26, even if they are not full-time students. Later added that all new health insurance policies must cover preventive care and pay a portion of all preventive care visits (Ye, & Rodriguez, 2021). In 2014, added that the people buying insurance on their own get subsidies to help them pay their monthly insurance premiums. Insurance companies are required to provide health insurance to any adult aged 19 to 64 who applies for coverage (E Health Insurance, 2013). Every year according to the congress and the political parties the changes are going according to the evaluation as well as who run the congress, about the allotment of the money, the premium, enrollment time and so forth.
Identify the links between this policy, clinical practice, and organizational, population, and fiscal issues.
The policy linked to the population by helping people to decrease uninsured Americans. To prevent people from waiting until they get sick to buy health insurance, the ACA requires all Americans to buy health insurance or pay a fine Kinney, E. D. (2018). The fine starts at $95 for an individual in 2014 and goes up each year until 2016 when the fine is $695 or 2.5% of a person’s annual income, whichever is greater (E Health Insurance, 2013).
This policy link to the insurance companies that had to ensure the value for premium payments. If insurance companies did not spend at least 80% to 85% of premiums on care (for individual, small group markets, and large group) the difference is sent to customers in a refund.
This policy and organization provide insurance to whoever wishes to have insurance without checking preexisting conditions.
Take a moment to think of the potential impact that the policy you are exploring could have on a vulnerable population. Try to find a news story or blog post through an internet search that discusses an actual case where this policy will make an impact (positive or negative). Complete the following learning activities with regard to this scenario:

Florida resident Ashley Ruiz is grateful for Obamacare regulations and safety-net spending, not least because of otherwise crushing costs for her special-needs son ( E Health Insurance,2013). The Medicaid-funded program fully covers Jackson, 4, because he is disabled, with a rare skull deformity and adrenal problems. He received more than $250,000 worth of care in his first 6 months, including the removal of part of his skull. Another surgery put bone grafts and titanium plates in his health.
Jackson’s fought for his life since his 1st breath. Now I fight @SenateMajLdr @SpeakerRyan (Links to an external site.) @realDonaldTrump (Links to an external site.) to keep his healthcare #AHCA (Links to an external site.)
The ACA has the potential effect on low-income Americans, including many vulnerable populations. In states that are opting to expand Medicaid, people with incomes up to 138 percent of poverty may enroll with little or no cost sharing.
How can nurses collaborate with other disciplines to influence healthcare policy?
Health policies are developed to serve the public interest: however, the policy process is much broader and more comprehensive than the legislative process (Milstead, & Short, 2017). Healthcare professionals must have expert knowledge and skill to function appropriately in the policy process. Nurses can bring research and creativity towards solving issues. To resolve the current nursing shortage using team nursing. Encourage more second-degree nursing programs like in world war11, graduate with short nursing education able to write NCLEX examination (Milstead, & Short, 2017). Involve in professional organizations bring their influence on the policy process than a single person. Nurses can bring their unique clinical experience should share with another public service regarding what nurses do (Milstead, & Short, 2017). The opportunities are unlimited, so each advance care provider should take each small, big opportunity to improve healthcare system delivery.
