One of the best aspects about studying securities regulation is that it is constantly in the news. Every day, another public company leader is prosecuted with breaking anti-fraud legislation, and another public corporation is probed for attempting to pay foreign government officials. You must choose one current incident that is relevant to any of the topics we will cover this semester and produce a research paper outlining what happened, the relevant law, and the significance of the story for the industry, the company, the law, and/or you for the current event research paper.
How to select a current event:
Within the last six months, the current occurrence must have made headlines. Start reading the financial and business news right now to find a topic that interests you. You may also look for press releases on the SEC’s website or on one of the many blogs about securities regulation, white-collar crime, or corruption. The SEC can also be followed on Twitter. You’ll dig deeper into a news story once you’ve found it, including the relevant law. It is not necessary for your narrative to be based on a previously litigated case. It might be a criminal investigation, a proposed new rule or regulation, or any other story involving the legal topics we’ve been discussing in class.
What should you put in your paper:
