ORGB 601 Assignment on Conflict Resolution
When people come together in a personal or professional situation, conflict is unavoidable. It is not a question of whether or not a conflict will happen; rather, it is a question of when. You’ve learned about many theories, current research, and organizational methods during this course. The display of the integration of theory, research, and practice relating to organizational behavior is one of the course’s main learning outcomes. This task is designed to help you illustrate how you’ve applied what you’ve learned!
We know that leadership styles, personality types, and organizational culture have a significant impact on how conflict arises and is resolved or is not resolved. Respond to the following case study, provide an assessment, and create a plan (based on evidence) to respond to the issues you identify, based on the learnings in this course, particularly the theory and research related to leadership, power, politics, conflict, conflict resolution, and organizational culture.
Examine the case study and respond to the question.
You’re a top-tier group of specialists in the field of management. Your firm has been invited to consult on a matter in a 500-person medium-sized company. The business is a marketing organization that focuses on working with technology firms. You are directly responsible to the CEO.
The problem, as noted by the CEO, is that two of his vice presidents (Danielle and Jim), who had previously worked well together, had begun fighting for a client. As a result, their various teams are no longer collaborating effectively. Not only are Danielle and Jim openly antagonistic against one another, but their individual squads have also taken sides with their respective leaders. Each team is keeping secrets, sabotaging the other, and in the most recent group meeting, both sides were yelling and cursing at each other.
Despite the fact that the client is a “big fish,” Jim and Danielle believe they have unique “rights” to win the account and earn a huge commission, according to the CEO.
Jim and Danielle began ranting at one other and accused each other of destroying the connection with the prospective client during a recent senior leadership meeting. Despite the fact that the CEO was present, he did not intervene. Other members of the executive team were present at the time, and the CFO eventually asked Danielle and Jim to leave.
The CEO has noted a reduction in productivity on both teams, and they are concerned that other clients are beginning to suffer as a result. Some employees have privately approached the CEO to express their dissatisfaction with the situation, and their working atmosphere is becoming poisonous. The director of human resources informed you that three employees have taken medical absence due to working stress.
The CEO wants you to: 1. assess the situation; 2. diagnose the core problems; and 4. apply the model to a solution. 5. Write a report and include recommendations for the best ways to deal with the problems.
