NUR3846 Telehealth PowerPoint Presentation
Background: Telehealth is defined as a collection of means or methods for using telecommunications technology to improve healthcare, public health, and health education delivery and support (Telehealth Resource Centers, 2016). Live video conferencing, store and forward remote patient monitoring, and mobile health (mHealth) devices are examples of telehealth technologies. The primary motivation for the use of telehealth is to provide equitable access to healthcare and education for those who live and work in remote areas where these services have been proven to be inadequate. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, environmental changes have made Telehealth a mainstream approach to education and healthcare.
To reduce staff exposure to ill people, preserve personal protective equipment (PPE), and minimize the impact of patient surges on facilities, changes in the way health care is delivered are needed during this pandemic. Using methods that do not rely on in-person services, healthcare systems have had to adjust the way they triage, evaluate, and care for patients. Telehealth services assist in providing needed care to patients while reducing the risk of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, being transmitted to healthcare professionals (HCP) and patients (CDC, 2020).
The purpose of this assignment is to address some of the technological competencies required by the Essentials of Baccalaureate Nursing Practice Essential IV: Information Management & Application of Patient Care Technology. Students should be able to use applications of patient care technologies that are primarily described as monitors, data gathering devices, or other supports for patient care interventions (AACN, 2008, p. 17), as well as the following technology skills: 1. Demonstrate competency in the use of patient-care technology, information systems, and communication devices to aid in safe nursing practice. 2. In a variety of healthcare settings, use telecommunication technologies to aid in effective communication. 3. Use appropriate patient care technologies to meet the needs of a diverse patient population. AACN,

8. Recognize and/or demonstrate competency in the use of patient-care technology, information systems, and communication devices to support safe nursing practice.
9. Use telecommunication technologies in a variety of healthcare settings to aid in effective communication, such as monitors, data gathering devices, or other supports for patient care interventions, as needed to meet the needs of a diverse patient population.
10. Include a tool for assessing effectiveness and collecting data (pre & post-test, Likert scale, graph etc.).
11. Make use of the visual presentation tool of your choice (sway, power point, Prezi, etc.) All presentations, however, must include a title page, a background, a goal, SMART objectives content, an evaluation, a summary conclusion, and a reflection (See Power point format PPT on Blackboard).
