Newsletter for Health Educators Project
SEE SYLLABUS FOR DUE DATE
This assignment asks you to research certain facets within our field and create an Employment Newsletter for Health Educators.
Your Newsletter should include the following subtitles and content:
- Newsletter Title (4 points)
Make sure your newsletter has a title. Even better if it’s catchy!
- Where Do Health Educators Work? (15 points)
List five organizations (anywhere in the United States) where health educators are employed. Include 1) name of organization 2) physical location of organization 3) a 1- to 2-sentence description of what each organization does.
- A Day in the Life of a Health Educator (10 points)
For one of these organizations, list the job responsibilities for the health educator.
- Upcoming Conferences (5 points)
List two upcoming national conferences that health educators can attend in 2017. For each conference, include: a) name of conference, b) date(s) and location of the conference, c) conference theme, and d) registration deadline.
- New Developments (15 points)
In 200 words, describe one development in the news that would impact health educators, for example, a new law or regulation (or a rollback of regulations), a national initiative or local program that has been successful, or recent political actions (or inaction) by the new administration.
- Salary Update (5 points)
List the average salary (national) of a health educator. Cite your source (not just a web link!) Make sure your source is valid (and not second-hand reporting from, for instance, a news website or other business website).
- Becoming a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) (10 points)
- Briefly discuss 3 benefits of obtaining CHES certification. b. List the criteria one must meet in order to take the CHES exam. c. Briefly describe three factoids about the CHES that you have learned through your research. (HINT: A good place to start is www.nchec.org)
- Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention (10 points)
- Present 5 meaningful statistics related to the issue of sexual assault. b. Describe 5 strategies someone can use to help or protect a loved one from sexual assault. c. Provide 5 resources for health educators who want to learn more about this topic. Don’t simply list the name of an agency (without a way to contact them) or a web link (without telling us what the web link is for). Make sure to give enough information for each resource you provide (e.g. name of agency, website, hotline #, etc.) so that a health educator reading your newsletter could follow up with this resource.
NOTE: Do NOT list conferences that don’t make sense for health educators to attend (e.g. conferences meant for medical doctors, surgeons, dentists, nurses, etc.). Points will be
deducted if you do so!

PLEASE NOTE: If you can do this project in a “newsletter” format, then I encourage you to do that. This said, I understand that not every computer comes with a “newsletter” formatting option and/or computers can be cranky about formatting in this way. If this is your case, then it is OK for you to provide this information within a regular Word document. Your grade will not suffer if you present it in this way. In either format, make sure to use the headings above, e.g. “Where do Health Educators work?” “Upcoming Conferences,” “Salary Update,” etc. As a reminder, I cannot review drafts of your work. That said, if you have specific questions or need clarification on how to do this assignment, please e-mail me!
