News and International Movie Essay Assignment
Did you give up television for 120 hours straight? If yes, answer questions 2Â5. If no, skip to question 6. Did you get someone tales to give up television with you? If so, who and for how long? When I read this assignment, I thought it would be impossible to give up T.V. for 5 days. I tried not to watch television for 120 hours straight (Monday to Friday) and I succeed it. I explained my mom about this assignment and she was ready to give up television for me for five days, but she could not make it. She did not watch T.V for two days.2.
Was it easy or difficult for you to break away from television/media? Why or why not? What did you learn about your consumption habits? Describe the media or television viewing (addicted) culture in thus. How did it feel to be purposely “disconnected†from this technology/television focused culture? It was not that difficult for me to break away from television because I spend most of my time at work and do not watch any particular show on the T.V. I only watch Netflix, news and international movies on that’ve but not every day.
Television is an important cultural element in our lives. I believe kids and senior people watch most television compare to the young generation. Kids love to watch cartoon and Disney shows on the T.V, they spend most of their time watching T.V and senior people like my grandparents or my parents they also spend their time watching news, serial or movies on the television. I think most of young generation spend their time on the computer and on the phone like me. So, viewing television or not is not really affect on my life.3.
What did you do with the empty “TV time”? Did you seek out interactions with other people or simply different media (computer, radio, CDs, etc.) Be sure and describe how not watching television or consuming media affected your other life habits (eating, socializing with family and friends, newsgathering, etc.) Since I did not watch TV for 5 days, I interacted more with my family and friends. It did not affect on mother life habits. I did outside activities such as games, and exercise meanwhile these 5 days. Of course, I used computer to watch daily shows, and YouTube, and radio for listening music.4. Describe your interaction with other people during this assignment.
How did people treat you because you were actively removing yourself from the mainstream? What was it like to interact (or not interact) with people based upon viewing/consuming (as opposed to other reasons: race, gender, class, etc.) What did you learn about our mediated culture? Briefly describe the television viewing culture and what it is like to attempt to avoid that culture or become a member of the nonviewing culture. Meantime, I spent more time with my family, cousins, and grandparents.
I was happy that I made this assignment and through this assignment, I got chance spent time with my grandparents and my cousin. Mediated culture plays important roles in our lives; without consuming media our lives would be dull.5. Have your consumption habits been altered by the experience? That is, did you (will you) go back to the old ways (informal€) or are you more reflective and selective? I think my consumption habits been altered by this experience. I became more socially active like played outside and spent more time with other people. I will watch TV but not like before. Before after work, I spend my rest of time on watching TV. But now, I will do outside activities as well which make me healthy and feel relaxed.
