Discussion Assignment:
Consider what you learned in the module readings about social and criminal justice policy, challenges for the criminal justice system with respect to multiculturalism and diversity, and strategies for moving forward.
- Identify and discuss ONE challenge facing the criminal justice system with respect to multiculturalism and diversity.
- Then, identify ONE policy that exists today to address this challenge.
- How effective has this policy been at addressing this challenge?
- With respect to moving forward, and as a future policy maker, what is at least one strategy that the criminal or juvenile justice system could take to successfully address this challenge in the future?
- Consider the topic of ethics with respect to our criminal justice system. Ethics was addressed in the course with respect to such topics as training for criminal justice professionals when dealing with the community. What role does ethics play in the discussion of multiculturalism, diversity, and the criminal justice system? Discuss.
Address one of the following at the end of your initial post:
- The Muddiest Point: In 2-3 sentences, identify one concept or topic from the Module 5 readings that you still have questions about.
- Continuing the Discussion: Considering the Module 5 textbook readings, create one discussion question related to a topic you found interesting in the readings. Your discussion question should thoughtfully and substantially further the discussion on the module materials (i.e. it should not be able to be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”, with a simple definition, or with an answer of only a few words).
Remember to reference the Module 5 materials (textbook and online content) to provide evidence for your arguments in your initial post.
In your 3 responses to your classmates:
- See if you can provide further resources and/or clarification for your classmates’ “Muddiest Point” discussion.
- Address your classmates’ “Continuing the Discussion” question by doing at least 1 of the following:
- Providing an answer to the question using your text and at least one additional, reliable external resource.
- Discussing and providing the information for a relevant, reliable external resource, including in your discussion why the resource is relevant to your classmates’ questions.
- Reviewing the posts of your classmates in this module discussion forum and summarizing some themes in the responses.
Remember to reference the Module 5 materials and provided resources to provide evidence for your arguments.
Be thorough in your response to ensure you fully address the questions. You should demonstrate a solid grasp of the readings and concepts mentioned above.
