A strategic plan is a document that organizes and communicates an organization’s objectives. It is also used to reduce risks and the likelihood of legal action. Barbara learns of an additional, more pressing problem at a satellite clinic that was not documented in the original UCCO case. This is a problem with the emergency care clinic, which is used to treat patients who have been injured in a car accident. For the past year, the clinic has been over-utilized, resulting in overworked staff, high costs, and a decline in patient care and customer satisfaction. The use of personal cell phones has an impact on staff productivity, and clinic equipment is frequently used for social media.A 13-year-old patient was seen by the UCCO Emergency Clinic for trauma care in one case. The patient’s parents express their unwillingness to consent to any procedure involving blood products or transfusion to the staff. The dangers are discussed with the parents. The patient was unconscious when he arrived, but he quickly regained consciousness. After the parents have left the room, the patient tells the nurse that she is afraid of dying and that she would accept any treatment, including blood procedures and products, in order to prolong her life. The nurse later discovers that the parents’ rejection was due to religious reasons. The nurse quickly discusses the case with coworkers, one of whom uses a clinic-owned computer to post comments on her social media page. All involved nurses and staff received a verbal warning from the nursing director.

Was the nursing manager legally obligated to keep patient information private? Explain the legal ramifications and back them up with federal laws and professional standards like HIPAA and professional codes of ethics.
What impact does the patient’s age and religious requests have on the case? Are there any medical or ethical laws that take precedence over the parents’ wishes?
What role does communication play and how important is it among UCCO facilities, especially in terms of compliance and ethical standards?
What are the professional and ethical implications of using social media?
Were the responses to the patient’s case unethical or illegal? What is the relationship between this and UCCO’s mission, values, and strategic action plans? What does it say about your own personal values and beliefs?
