Authentic leaders are genuine, lead with their heart while working toward a vision, and are consistent. Thinking about authentic leadership, address the following:
What are five characteristics of authentic leaders?
Of the characteristics noted, why are these characteristics important for authentic leaders to possess?
Identify an authentic leader and describe how he/she inspires followers.
Explain how emotional intelligence impacts an authentic leader’s behavior.
Identify three steps that you can take to become an emotionally-intelligent, authentic leader.

For Your Success Leaders come into their roles within organizations with diverse skill sets, personalities, and prior experiences. There is no single combination of these factors that results in effective leadership. Instead, effective leaders are those who have mastered an understanding of diverse leadership theories, paradigms, and styles, and then select from those choices the approaches that most align with their personal philosophies of leadership (Avolio & Luthans, 2016).
In this module, students consider various learned thought including authentic leadership, emotional intelligence, and how leadership is different than management. Module 12 features a Critical Thinking Assignment where students discuss authentic leadership and its usefulness in professional settings.
