Z-F Leadership Development Paper
MBA 550 “Leading In An Organization”
This is the capstone document for your leadership learning experience in utilizing the Zenger Folkman Leadership Development Plan. It serves to pull together thoughts, ideas, perspectives, competencies and skills that we have discussed in class, and to punctuate those concepts that have had the greatest impact on your thinking, behavior and effectiveness as a leader.
While your personal growth and capability as a leader has been a primary learning goal, it has been equally important to build organizational capacity and mental muscle mass for shared learning, teaming, virtual collaboration and personal interaction within groups that may not always reflect people form your native culture. This is the growing reality of our evolving workplace.
We are living in a VUCA World. This research effort will allow you to take advantage of the opportunity for you to build a personal plan for establishing your individual development strategy and leadership learning plan, as well as beginning to formally nurture an organizational learning culture focused on leadership knowledge, skills and capability.
This assignment will challenge your critical thinking skills to integrate multiply perspectives around leadership while focusing on “one key leadership lever” as defined by Z-F. You will work independently to design and construct a comprehensive plan for your personal continuing leadership development and this plan will consider your self-defined competencies/passion & career need. (Your choice to specify the Leadership Lever you selected.) You will be expected to integrate key leadership principles from chapters 1-6 in our text and any additional references you deem important in supporting your leadership perspective.
Feel free to consult within your assigned groups in class that you have been for brainstorming and support, but be clear that each of you will be expected to submit a unique plan for development that defines and describes the challenges within your culture and work environment.
You are expected to:
- Develop a personal plan for leadership development in “one” of the 6 levers as defined by Z-F
- Attach a copy of your Leadership Levers: Building Critical Strengths Development Plan
- Develop an organizational/ plan that highlights and punctuates the most needed aspects of leadership in your selected organizational with a time-line for implementation
- Integrate class reading assignments and any past course work you feel adds value to your analysis.
- Establish a curricular plan that is skills- and competency-based, with sufficient detail around logistics, cost, implementation strategy, evaluation and metrics that would allow a senior leadership group to evaluate and respond to support — or not — the initiative as a breakthrough focus for establishing dispersed leadership capacity and confidence in a dynamic and rapidly changing health care practice environment.
- Be creative but concise with your plan. We are not establishing an expectation that you “write a book” for this assignment. Think BIG and comprehensively, but write lean to describe your intent, your plan of action and your expected outcomes. Given the weight of this assignment on your final grade most students find that 6-8 pages of value—add content is required, not including cover page and reference page.
- Consider working with the SNHU writing center to hone the academic rigor of your submission and avert any possible conflicts with plagiarism.
- Be creative in how you format your assignment submission. Consider options that will facilitate your active revisiting of the plan to increase the results you achieve over time.
Be certain: this assignment is designed to enhance the leadership learning experience as well as the career and practical impact of your career needs. Consider the time invested in this assignment as a gift to yourself. You will get back and benefit as a self- reflection, what you invest in the development of your assignment submission.
