Here is the Announcement from professor for assignment more in depth
Your big RCA assignment this week involves more practice evaluating and critiquing existing research studies, as well as comparing quantitative to qualitative. Please take this assignment seriously—it can be the deciding assignment for success or failure in this course.
This assignment, unfortunately, has minimal directions under the Blackboard tab. Therefore, be sure to review important information below!
- Do not wait to start this assignment—the RCA’s are time consuming! (I would suggest doing one article per night during the week and then writing your comparison on the weekend).
_________________________________________________________
- You need 4 research studies —two quantitative and two qualitative—that are related to your topic that you discussed in your week 2 PICOT assignment (you cannot use the same ones you used for your abstracts). You will complete a Rapid Critical Appraisal (RCA) on each one.
- Briefly fill in the RCA’s with words and phrases—NO complete sentences and you do not cite in the checklists—only in the summary paper.
- This is not an in-depth critique (that is in week 7)—it is just a summary of key info!!
- I have attached a completed RCA above for two articles so that you can see how they should be filled out. You can probably get 1/2 of what you need from the abstract, and then you will have to dig into the article for the rest of the information.
- The 1-2 page summary portion of your assignment is where you compare the overall characteristics of the design of the quantitative studies to the design of the qualitative summaries.
- Do not—-I repeat—DO NOT just reiterate the same article info in your summary!!! The summary requires a discussion of the similarities and differences in the concepts of the two designs, using examples from your articles to support your comparative discussion.
- Be sure to pay attention to the types of studies that are NOT Make sure you have studies, not just an article. Also, do NOT use proposals—research that has been planned but not yet carried out.
In summary—you are submitting 2 parts for this assignment: the RCA checklists (worth 60% of the grade) and the summary (worth 40% of the grade). For this assignment you do not need to submit the articles.
