Legalization of Marijuana Essay Assignment
Running head: LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA 2
Legalization of Marijuana
In the heated debate on whether to legalize marijuana does not seem to end soon, the solution will not be achieved unless the bodies responsible reach a consensus on the herb’s social, health, and economic benefits. Marijuana is consumed and derived as a drug from the cannabis plant. It is also a unique drug and should be utilized as a medical and recreational drug in North America. There have been several attempts to legalize marijuana in different states, but the process has been met with many challenges failing to pass the policies into law. When appropriately used, cannabis has proven to have more positive effects on people. It helps people with chronic disease, it stops cancer cells, and reduces depression to patients with anxiety; therefore, marijuana should be legalized.
The argument about the legalization of marijuana is essential because of the many scientifically proven benefits it has to the human body. Although marijuana in many states is considered to be illegal, many people still use it. This keeps them at risk of facing legal consequences as a result of breaking the law. Consequently, if marijuana is legalized, it will decrease its usage because it will no longer be a risk to use it. Another words, people who use marijuana as a recreational drug will continue doing so. Another reason is the issue of the medical benefits of cannabis; cancer has been a significant challenge and burden to many families. Marijuana is proven to stop cancer cells if allowed, will help reduce the new cancer infection. Cannabis has also helped patients with anxiety by reducing depression; therefore, legalizing marijuana has more benefits than harm to human beings.
I will have a thorough analysis of different reasons as to why the legalization of marijuana is still a challenge and how different states have tried to legalize it. I’m planning to analyze the language used when discussing the legalization of cannabis using the sources. I will use the sources to argue the reasons for and benefits of the legalization of marijuana. I will also have to analyze some of the arguments that are against the legalization of marijuana.
