The Project Plan is the first of the integrated components of the assessment for the unit. It is where you develop a clear and research-based formulation of the issue (how streaming has affected media consumption) you will be working on and settle on the genre (investigative report) in which you will work. This assessment will enable you to plan your semester’s work and help you develop project management skills. Instructions The Project Plan has three parts: Part 1: The Challenge In this part, you need to outline the question/issue your team will be working on and the aspect of the question/issue you will be addressing. This part should address the following questions: what is the question/issue that your team is seeking to address? why is this question/issue important and to whom is it important? what aspect of the question/issue will you be addressing?
Part 2: Background Research In this part, you need to provide a summary of five references that you will use to develop your response to the problem/issue you are addressing. Your references should include: at least three research journal articles, ‘grey literature’ (materials and research produced by organizations outside of the traditional commercial or academic publishing and distribution channels) or policy documents (eg from a local, state or federal government or non-government organisation website) two additional references many which may include reports, data from ABS, reputable media commentaries (eg
The Conversation or Inside Story or respected specialist journalists), quality newspaper articles or creative or writing pieces Each annotation should: be around 160 words (i.e. excluding the bibliographic citation) consist of the bibliographic details of a source (the citation) followed by a brief annotation summarise the content and/or scope of the source evaluate the relevance or usefulness of the source for your artefact be concise (one paragraph) be written in full sentences. Sample annotation Trevor, C.O., Lansford, B. and Black, J.W., 2004, ‘Employee turnover and job performance: monitoring the influences of salary growth and promotion’, Journal of Armchair Psychology, vol 113, no.1, pp. 56-64. In this article Trevor et al. review the influences of pay and job opportunities in respect to job performance, turnover rates and employee motivation.
The authors use data gained through organisational surveys of blue-chip companies in Vancouver, Canada to try to identify the main causes of employee turnover and whether it is linked to salary growth. Their research focuses on assessing a range of pay structures such as pay for performance and organisational reward schemes. The article is useful to my research topic, as Trevor et al. suggest that there are numerous reasons for employee turnover and variances in employee motivation and performance. The main limitation of the article is that the survey sample was restricted to mid-level management, thus the authors indicate that further, more extensive, research needs to be undertaken to develop a more in-depth understanding of employee turnover and job performance.
This article will not form the basis of my research; however it will be useful supplementary information for my research on pay structures. Part 3: The model In this part, you need to identify and analyse an example of the type or genre of artefact you will create. This will be a model for the form (or genre) of your Artefact. Your model can be in any approved genre – Investigative/Policy Report, Journalistic Feature Article, Creative Writing, Journalistic Portfolio, Podcast, Video Essay, Website, Zine or Social Media Campaign. As it will function as guide to the form of your Artefact, it does not have to be on your topic. As your Artefact must be research-informed, your model must also be based on credible research. This part should: provide a link to your chosen model (eg Angus, C 2017, Slow wage growth, NSW Parliamentary Research Service.
https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/researchpapers/Pages/slow-wage-growth.aspx (Links to an external site.) address the following questions: what genre have you chosen, and why? who is the target audience of the sample model you have chosen, eg the general public, a particular demographic, a community group, a non-government organisation, a union, a government agency or minister, or a business? Is this the same target audience you want to address with your Artefact? what are the distinctive characteristics of the sample model you have chosen? (e.g. how information is structured and presented, format, writing/audio style) how are these genre-specific stylistic choices relevant to the target audience? what differences do you notice between the sample model you have chosen and academic essays you are used to writing?
what research would the author(s) of your sample model have been engaged in to produce this type of artefact? There are examples of appropriate models available in the Supplementary Assessment Resources Module. Guide Here is a guide to how to compose your Project Plan: Part one: The Challenge 200 words Part two: Background Research 1000 words Part three: The Model 300 words Marking Criteria: Work-in-progress presentation: Clear articulation of the team topic and your individual topic Summary of two references and how they will be relevant to your topic Identification of an appropriate model Final written submission: Clear formulation of the problem/issue being investigated Quality of background research Appropriateness of artefact model Quality of analysis of artefact model Quality of the overall written expression Professional presentation Evidence of team co-ordination
