Kenia Tijera : Hello, for this part of the book, the section on evidence was really insightful for me. The paragraph that I was surprised with and did not know about was indirect evidence and how the researchers use what they have available to have evidence about their work. Surprisingly, even indirect evidence can help researchers to get a conclusion of the study. “Ineffective evidence provides only imperfect support.
Sometimes the only evidence available is indirect”. (Best pg. 123). Sometimes gathering evidence to prove facts is hard, especially when there is no such evidence to work with and the researcher has to go based on assumptions. There are different occasions when the researchers face this problem, sometimes because the evidence is kept from the researchers when interviewing the participants; other times, the evidence cannot be found in any records. Therefore with indirect evidence is not possible to address a direct question or problem and have supporting evidence to prove and back up the results. Irene Villegas : Reading this week’s chapters, a new idea stood out in chapter 13, “Echo Chambers.” In this chapter’s section, “Recognizing and Addressing One’s Own Biases,” Best discussed how “Researchers’ expectations can also distort social science research findings” (Best 102). This idea Best describes was insightful because it allows you to understand how some research and methods may be misleading. From reading Best’s chapter, this may cause issues within the study, and “The tendency for researchers’ expectations to shape what they find is a serious problem for all branches of science” (Best 103).
This section provides insight, examples of how studies may be conducted, and the sought-after results. This information is useful when conducting research for a study or analyzing one.This section from Best’s book provides valuable data when examining research for my writing for another class. Recognizing bias will allow me to explore the accurate data that is necessary & its validity. Once you are able to recognize the effects bias holds in a researchers expectations, it makes it easier to understand how their methods effected their data ,and how to avoid it in your own studies.write reply…
