- When reading Chapter 3 of Understanding Social Entrepreneurship: The Relentless Pursuit of Mission in an Ever-Changing World, I realized that it’s crucial for social entrepreneurs to have strong attention to detail. The first step in a social entrepreneur’s process is finding a problem, researching it, and gaining insight into the problem. “If entrepreneurs carefully monitor changes in their environment, they will see patterns that will help them to predict arising challenges or needs to be addressed” (Kickul, Lyons 39). This will help social entrepreneurs find inspiration in their everyday lives. Strong attention to detail will also help when researching the issue at hand. During the research process, social entrepreneurs often interview their clients or target audience, getting their input and figuring out how to best help them. Paying close attention to them will help social entrepreneurs in coming up with the best solution for their needs.
- For week four, I found the article “Social-Tech Entrepreneurs: Building Blocks of a New Social Economy” very interesting. It is very cool to learn about social tech entrepreneurship and how it solely focuses on developing and deploying new tech driven solutions in order to fix social problems. The rise of social-tech entrepreneurs will provide a safeguard for economic sustainability. They are going to pave the way in improving third world countries. However, there are still limitations to their goals of using technology based products and services to adress these social problems. For instance a lack of funds and social and economic restrictions. Overall, I think social-tech en entrepreneurship is on the rise and going to become more and more prevalent.
Part 3: Analytic Response to Readings, Media, and Social Entrepreneurship Exemplars for the Week.
500 words minimum including quotes you incorporate from the text.
Required: at least three (3) verbatim quotes from the reading with page numbers (no page numbers required for websites) or paraphrases of the speakers/media events with general time stamp for videos or date for “live events.”
Prompt: What qualities are helpful for social entrepreneurs and/or social entrepreneurships? Flexibility? Agility? Nimble response? How can we see opportunities for positive social change in the world around us using these qualities? How are these qualities necessary to engage in client-centered approaches? How does a design thinking allow us to take information from the social world and use that information to generate different approaches to create change that are client-centered? What did you find inspiring about the Social Entrepreneurs of the Week—what did they teach you about how solutions to social problems can be generated using an inductive, culturally appropriate, client-centered approach using design thinking?
