In the world of academic research, professionals publish their research work in peer-reviewed journals. This means that their professional academic peers review their work and decide if it’s worthy of publication.
These journal articles are research studies. The purpose of any scientific work is to study the subject of research. The goal can only be one, and it should be formulated with the words “to reveal,” “to explore,” “to study,” “to develop.” You will be selecting a journal article on a related topic in this course to read and review from the American Psychological Association.
Follow these directions to locate your journal article:
- Go to https://www.apa.org/index.aspx.
- In the upper right hand corner, you should see a search box. Type in: adolescence. Double check the spelling before hitting “enter”
- A list of search results will come up. Go to the left menu bar (Refine your search), scroll down to Document Type, and click on Journal Articles. When the results come up, sort by: Newest First.
- Select any journal article from 2017-2020 that interests you. Please make sure the population of the study is adolescence.
- Follow the template given above this section and include the exact headings provided
The final product will be a 2-3 page paper (excluding the title and reference pages) reviewing a peer-reviewed research article related to a child development psychology topic. The goal is to become knowledgeable about current research in this area.
If you have taken this course previously or completed this capstone assignment in another course you can NOT resubmit your original paper. I do not allow recycled papers for this assignment. Be sure to write in your own words and provide in-text citations and references in APA format.
The paper should include headings exactly as given on the template which include the information below:

- Introduction – What was the study about? What is the importance of the topic?
- Theoretical Review: Summarize literature cited on the subject
- Method: Who were the participants in the study?
- Method: What procedure was used? How did the researchers collect data? What type of research is this? (based on the types of research from your reading). Describe the variables.
- What were the results of the study?
- Describe the limitations of the study.
- What conclusions were drawn from the study? Summarize the key findings and their importance.
- Reference Page (only cite your journal article authors)
- Write in our OWN words and limit to ONE direct quote
- Avoid “I, we, you,” and write in third person perspective such as “the researchers, the participants, they, them, etc.”
