Government Control of Human Population Growth
Controlling human being population involves artificial methods in an attempt to regulate the birth of more children. Historically, the control of the human population involved implementing measures to increase the population growth rate. However, from the 1950s, the growth in population had adverse growth and increased poverty. In addition, there was environmental degradation. Political stability led to attempts by the governments to slow down the population growth (Sharif 68). At the same time, the government introduced measures to improve the living conditions by offering the citizens greater control of reproduction. The Chinese government for instance introduced a policy requiring family to have one child only. The government measures were coercive raising the question whether the government should control the population growth. The opposers of the move by the government indicated that the policy was against the human rights and reproductive rights of women.
Human population growth will lead to dropping of the land per person to less than 1 square inch. The estimated population by the year 2050 is 9 billion. The governments should act accordingly to stop the population growth considering several factors. The high population will not have adequate water and food, and there will be heavy pollution, many deaths of animals and plants, and limited energy among other shortages. The control of the population is vital to avoid dangerous situations in future. The governments should educate their subjects about family planning. They should assist women to acquire better economic progress, legislative measures to protect the environment and minimize the growth of illegal immigrants.
There will be no jobs to offer to the citizens if the world becomes overpopulated. The population growth rate forced some governments to use drastic measures. China for instance killed many kids most of them being girls. It was necessary to react to the soaring population. The methods and tools used to slow down population growth causes a debate and counter arguments. Decreasing the population will involve educating families on matters family planning. According to the UN statistics, there is the growth of population of 1.2% or 70 million people every year (Knudsen 7). Africa has the highest birth rate in the worlds because contraceptives are not widely used. Promoting contraceptives will assist in dropping the birth rate. However, population reduction measures are not working.
The human population should be left to follow the rules of nature. People born eventually face death because people cannot live a sustainable life since the population limit has supposedly exceeded. When the population grows, the people in the world will benefit and adapt. From big families, the nations will have good foundations. Governments should not interfere with people’s freedom to have what makes them happy (Knudsen, 5). Some people enjoy and are comfortable with many family members. The arguments by the government that the overpopulation will results in straining the available resources are not enough evidence to control population. Environmental degradation and high population are due to the carelessness, neglect and greed from a section of the human beings. Rather, the governments should advocate for improved decisions on how to control the living environment. Research shows education and low birth rate correlates. More knowledge and low birth rate resolutions benefit several parties rather than a few or an individual. Moreover, there is a great crime in aborting children. Killing a child born illegally and aborting its future, is even a larger crime. Where is the human sense sympathy? The land in the world is only 50% full. What is the use of the other half of the available space? The governments should not worry about the growth in population as the world has enough recourses space (both land and the sky).
