- The names of group members must be submitted during class, 17 August 2020.
- The presentations start on 24th August and the last chance is 26 August.
- If you choose to do this as a group project, then you may choose one person from the group to present for the group, but rest of the group can be asked.

The Project and Guidelines
- Select any one critical national or international, social/ business/ economic/ educational/geographic/environmental issue, which in the opinion of the group, must be resolved effectively and using critical thinking and problem solving skills, analyze the issue in detail and systematically.

The project and guidelines
- Below are two videos on smoking. The first is from Nucleus Medical Media and talks about the consequences of smoking. (the speaker uses his well-organized facts, ideas and arguments to make people aware of the danger of smoking.) The second is a film documentary on smoking. It talks about the seduction of smoking and its consequences.

- Below there are two different topics or views: One on the fact that some find smoking very helpful when it comes to reducing the stress. While the other one topic sees smoking as the main cause of lung cancer and has nothing to do with reducing the stress. You must complete both and then present on the one that has the most convincing argument.
Go to the e-library (access it through your LMS) and get information to support these arguments:
Smocking can reduce the stress and make some people feel very good.
AND
Smoking causes most cases of lung cancer and has nothing to do with reducing the stress.
Document where you got the information from.

- Summarize the information you have found for both topics and decide which argument alternative is most convincing. [ ½ page per summary]
- Present your argument choice to the class. Your presentation must be 2 – 3 minutes long. You do not need a visual aid but may use one if you so prefer.
TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PROJECT
- This must be typed using Arial 12 or Times New Roman 11.
- Your project should not be shorter than 2 pages and not longer than 3 pages.
- Paragraphs must be justified
- Paragraphs must have 1 ½ line spacing
- Presentation visual must not have the whole project written on it. Only highlights and pictures.

Elements of the required response may also be lacking. 40 points out of 50: The essay illustrates solid understanding of the relevant material by correctly addressing most of the relevant content; identifying and explaining most of the key concepts/ideas; using correct terminology; explaining the reasoning behind most of the key points/claims; and/or where necessary or useful, substantiating some points with accurate examples. The answer is complete. 50 points: The essay illustrates exemplary understanding of the relevant material by thoroughly and correctly addressing the relevant content; identifying and explaining all of the key concepts/ideas; using correct terminology explaining the reasoning behind key points/claims and substantiating, as necessary/useful, points with several accurate and illuminating examples. No aspects of the required answer are missing. Use of Sources (worth a maximum of 20% of the total points). Zero points: Student failed to include citations and/or references. Or the student failed to submit a final paper. 5 out 20 points: Sources are seldom cited to support statements and/or format of citations are not recognizable as APA 6th Edition format. There are major errors in the formation of the references and citations. And/or there is a major reliance on highly questionable. The Student fails to provide an adequate synthesis of research collected for the paper. 10 out 20 points: References to scholarly sources are occasionally given; many statements seem unsubstantiated. Frequent errors in APA 6th Edition format, leaving the reader confused about the source of the information. There are significant errors of the formation in the references and citations. And/or there is a significant use of highly questionable sources. 15 out 20 points: Credible Scholarly sources are used effectively support claims and are, for the most part, clear and fairly represented. Structure of the Paper (worth 10% of total points) Zero points: Student failed to submit the final paper. 3 points out of 10: Student needs to develop better formatting skills. The paper omits significant structural elements required for and APA 6th edition paper. Formatting of the paper has major flaws. The paper does not conform to APA 6th edition requirements whatsoever. 5 points out of 10: Appearance of final paper demonstrates the student’s limited ability to format the paper.
