Final Exam Paper on Substance Abuse
Instructions:
This is an open book, untimed, non-proctored exam. This examination will cover material from your reading assignments for the last four weeks of class. In each of your answers, you must make connections to the textbook and properly cite it.
Answers must be paraphrased (restated in your own words without quoting), properly APA formatted (including within-answer citations and a list of references at the end of each answer), and at least 600 words in length (excluding source citations and references). Answers should be concise, thorough, articulated in well-organized paragraphs (no lists, sentence fragments, or bulleted items), and more substantive than just definitions of terms, procedures, or issues.
To finish this exam, save a copy on your hard drive, write your answers below each question on a separate page for each question, add a cover page to the front and a reference list to the back (references must also be placed at the end of each question for which they were used), and submit it under the Final Exam assignment tab.
NOTE: Answers copied and pasted into the assignment tab’s student comments box will not be graded; instead, a Word document or Rich-Text File formatted as directed above must be uploaded.

b. Populations of minorities

3. Part I: Explain how psychopharmacological treatments for substance use disorders work in general for (a) acute withdrawal and (b) chronic maintenance in layman’s terms. Part II: Discuss the specific psychopharmacological interventions available as treatment for two specific substances of abuse.
4. When considering the use of Self-Help and 12-Step group therapy for substance use disorders, weigh the benefits and drawbacks of each. What factors, whether internal to the groups or external to the clients, might influence treatment outcomes? Last but not least, what concerns might a clinician have about referring a client to this type of therapy?
5. Assess the current state of the field in terms of treatment matching methodologies. After two decades of work in this field, where are we now? Do our current findings warrant further investigation in this area?
