Description: This course focuses on the development of a financial plan. Students will develop a revenue forecast, draft a budget, and create a profit and loss statement. Students will identify sources of funding, understand the importance of a break-even analysis, and calculate and interpret performance measures for business decision-making and sustainability.

1.1 Explain the major elements of a business plan.
1.2 Identify the importance of the financial section and its connectivity with the business plan.
1.3 Evaluate finance as it relates to entrepreneurship.
2.1 Differentiate between the purpose, content, and users of financial statements.
2.2 Explain the importance of the Statement of Cash Flows.
2.3 Use financial analysis techniques to gauge the financial condition of the company.
3.1 Discuss how to manage working capital.
3.2 Interpret the cash conversion cycle.
3.3 Analyze cash flow from operations.
4.1 Discuss cost characteristics and how to manage them.
4.2 Calculate financial outcomes using time value of money concepts.
4.3 Differentiate among the capital budgeting selection criteria Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Payback Methods.
5.1 Assess concepts of value for businesses.
5.2 Recognize various avenues for raising capital.
5.3 Determine the tax implications of business decisions.
6.1 Create a budget to achieve the firm’s financial objectives.
6.2 Explain how to assess business risk and how to lower the risk profile.

Elements of the required response may also be lacking. 40 points out of 50: The essay illustrates solid understanding of the relevant material by correctly addressing most of the relevant content; identifying and explaining most of the key concepts/ideas; using correct terminology; explaining the reasoning behind most of the key points/claims; and/or where necessary or useful, substantiating some points with accurate examples. The answer is complete. 50 points: The essay illustrates exemplary understanding of the relevant material by thoroughly and correctly addressing the relevant content; identifying and explaining all of the key concepts/ideas; using correct terminology explaining the reasoning behind key points/claims and substantiating, as necessary/useful, points with several accurate and illuminating examples. No aspects of the required answer are missing. Use of Sources (worth a maximum of 20% of the total points). Zero points: Student failed to include citations and/or references. Or the student failed to submit a final paper. 5 out 20 points: Sources are seldom cited to support statements and/or format of citations are not recognizable as APA 6th Edition format.
