Description / paper instructions
kindly note that we supposed to choose an example of a UAE based business as an application to our learning of “strategic management in global environment” . We have to analyse a business case and apply the concepts of business analytic tools such SWOT analysis or whatever applies.I have chosen to study the case of the new SEHA – MAyo joint venture: prons and concequences, Strengths , challenges or weaknesses ,and opportunities. probably we can start with an introduction on healthcare sector in the UAE , and a background history about MAyo. we are supposed to rely more on primary data (assuming that we had interviews with shareholders/ stakeholders), more than relying on secondary data. kindly note attached guidelines of the project with examples of previously done presentations. Master of Business Administration Program Master of Human Resource Management Program Assessment – (Group Assignment Project) Each group is required to submit a written case project assignment. The length of this project should be between 15-20 pages, typed using font size 12 and 1½ spacing in Times New Roman. Each group will consist of 2 to 3 students, depending on the total number of students enrolled for the course at one time. This is a strategic management case study. It forces the students to do a complete written strategic case and its related analysis as in the comprehensive report based on the following requirement: The project assignment is about: Developing A Case Study: Comprehensive Strategic Management Case of UAE-based or Regional-based (GCC) Company
A Case Study A case study is a description of an actual administrative situation involving a decision to be made or a problem to be solved. It can be a real situation that actually happened just as described, or portions have been disguised for reasons of privacy. Most case studies are written in such a way that the reader takes the place of the manager whose responsibility is to make decisions to help solve the problem. In almost all case studies, a decision must be made, although that decision might be to leave the situation as it is and do nothing.
Proposed Assignment Strategy:
Phase I: Choose ONE case company Identify one company that is operating in the industry you have studied. The company MUST be UAE- based or Regional-based (GCC) company. Each team should identify the current issues faced and strategy employed by the firm and appraises its internal resources and capabilities. Identify strategy applied to the company. How is the current strategy incorporating these competencies and helping the firm compete within the industry? Evaluate the current performance of the firm. How successful has the strategy been in generating an above average financial performance for the firm over time and relation to the industry and competitors? Phase II: Defining the Issue(s)/Problem Statement The problem statement or issues highlights should be a clear, concise statement of exactly what needs to be addressed. This is not easy to write! The work that you did in the short cycle process answered the basic questions. Now it is time to decide what the main issues to be addressed are going to be in much more detail. Asking your team the following questions may help:
The problem statement may be framed as a question, e.g.: What should Mr. Adel do? or How can Mr. Kamal improve market share? Usually the problem statement has to be re-written several times during the analysis of a case, as you peel back the layers of symptoms or causation.
Phase III: Analysing Information In analyzing the case data, you are trying to answer the following:
Now, where are the problems being caused within this framework, and why?
Phase IV: Generating Alternatives This section deals with different ways in which the problem can be resolved. Typically, there are many (the joke is at least three), and being creative at this stage helps. Things to remember at this stage are:
Once the alternatives have been identified, a method of evaluating them and selecting the most appropriate one needs to be used to arrive at a decision. Phase V: Key Decision Criteria
A very important concept to understand, they answer the question of how you are going to decide which alternative is the best one to choose. Other than choosing randomly, we will always employ some criteria in making any decision.
Phase VI: Recommendations and Conclusion What are your recommendations for these firms? How would you change their strategies? What recommendations do you have for implementation? How to Prepare Presentation Materials What should be included in a good presentation material?
Please bear in mind that the group is required to conduct research that goes well beyond the data/info contained in the textbook for this course. The group should also bear in mind that the extensiveness of the research conducted – reflected in both the content of the report and in the bibliography utilised – as well as the structure of the report are particularly relevant.
The report should be prepared in consultation with the instructor. The groups are encouraged to submit a draft of the written assignment on-going basis prior to the due date of the assignment to get proper input/or feedback from the instructor. REMEMBER: Instructor will not chase after students, and students who fail to join a group early in the semester will fail this assessment item and consequently the course.
Each group is to turn in a hardcopy of the written project assignment and make a presentation on the last day of the class (date: to be determined). Assignment MUST be submitted BEFORE the due date. There will be NO exceptions. Assignments submitted after the due date will NOT accepted. Notes on Written Reports: Always remember that you will be judged by the quality of your work, which includes your written work such as case study reports. Sloppy, dis-organized, poor quality work will say more about you than you probably want said! To ensure the quality of your written work, keep the following in mind when writing your report:
Presentation of Assignment
The presenting group will be evaluated based on:
The presenting group may use PowerPoint, transparencies, handouts, and/or any other presentation materials to facilitate the presentation and understanding of the topic. The presenting group must turn in a hard copy of the presentation materials to the lecturer on the day of the presentation. The total marks are 10% per group. The presentation should be as creative as possible to ignite interest. Each presentation should not exceed 30 minutes. The total marks are 30% per group – where a maximum of 20% is allocated for the written case project and 10% is given for the case presentation. Late Assessment Assessments must be submitted in the specified format by the due date. The submission time is indicated by the date stamped by the School on the assignment or the time that electronic submission is recorded. Marks will be deducted for each calendar day the assessment is late without prior negotiation with the relevant subject/Course Coordinator. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: Education assumes a high level of trust between the instructor and students. You will be expected to communicate with class members and the instructor in a professional and respectful manner. All work must be the product of your own efforts and, if you are referencing outside sources, you must site those sources in your work. In this course, honesty, integrity, and respect for others are fundamental expectations. Dishonesty, lying, cheating, harassment or discrimination will not be tolerated. All work turned in must be your own product. Proper material citation must be used when applicable. CASE PRESENTATION EVALUATION FORM
