employees’ attitudes and behaviors assignment
Each individual student will submit a separate paper on the subtopic they chose as part of their team’s presentation. A 1000 – 1100 word paper will be submitted to the professor as an assignment. Creativity and novelty are important to carrying this out successfully and so is outside research. Please focus on employees’ attitudes and behaviors. I strongly recommend that you choose topics on the team sign-up sheet; however, if you choose a different topic, you must get approval from me before the second week of class. Good sources for ideas may be newspapers, magazines, current events, reality TV, etc. You are welcome to frame your analysis objectively or to develop a thesis and defend it.
Describe and define the HR/OB phenomena. Give sufficient detail to provide a clear understanding of how organizational practices may be impacted by the chosen topic. To support this description, provide an example from an organization where the topic has been raised as an issue including evidence of the positive and negative results. You may draw this example from the popular press or from real life examples that you glean from discussions/interviews with business contacts. In summary, HR managers in the audience may be more likely to believe that this is critical if they clearly understand how it works and have evidence of its impact on employees in other organizations.
Summarize current research in the field on your chosen topic including a literature review of the most recent published articles on your topic. Provide a balanced assessment by identifying employee attitudes and behaviors, ethical considerations, legal considerations, and so on associated with your topic. Make the strategic business case for how this issue can impact employees’ attitudes and behaviors. What types of tangible and intangible benefits can be realized by understanding your phenomenon? Explain your rationale. Outline a plan to measure the changes that HR managers should make in response to your presentation and provide recommendations that include action items that can be followed by HR managers.
Reports will be evaluated on the criteria explained above, as well as the team’s ability to convey its ideas (i.e., writing skills).
