Effect of Social Support on the Severity of Postpartum Depression
**This assignment is an outline of a paper that will be written in week 8. Please read the directions carefully as I have copied all instructions directly from my instructor verbatim. **
Assignment Content
Prepare a 2-page outline of your Research Proposal. The outline should provide an overview of the main elements of your proposal. It should include:
- An introduction
- A brief statement of purpose
- The rationale for conducting the study
- Your hypotheses and research questions
- Methods (participants, procedures, materials, instruments), and appropriate statistical test(s) for data analysis
- List of at least three relevant articles for the proposal
- Review the link to help you write a proposal https://web.pdx.edu/~dbls/proposals.html
**Note: I don’t want a general outline you can write without doing ANY legwork. Your outline should be SPECIFIC to YOUR PROPOSED STUDY!
Your proposal is a study you are DESIGNING not one you are reporting about by looking up articles in the library. You are utilizing what you have learned about research methods to design your OWN STUDY (although you are not actually CONDUCTING an experiment of any kind, just writing about what you WOULD do).
The purpose of this outline is to obtain feedback from your instructor on your progress and on the feasibility of your topic and design.
Note: Students are not to solicit human subjects and gather data.

Important – Research Outline/Proposal Topic
Hi Class,
In case you missed this in Week 2…you ARE REQUIRED to write your research proposal topics (and title your outlines and proposals with this) in the form of a question with ALL three of the elements below.
Think About and Select a potential research topic for the Research Proposal due in Week Eight.
Create a potential title in the form of a question:
“What is the effect of [the name of a program, intervention or initiative] on [psychological outcome or behavior] for [target population]?
For example: “What Is the Effect of Social Support on the Severity of Postpartum Depression Among Adolescent Mothers”
Hello Everyone,
As promised, I will be providing more information regarding the Methods section of your proposal in this post. It’s important to work hard on this section for your proposals due at the end of Week 8 as that is the meat and potatoes of your research. Here is some more information:
Research Methods & Procedures
Participants/target population (age, gender, inclusion and exclusion criteria, etc.). In other words, fully describe the population of your study.
Recruitment and informed consent process (how will you get people to participate? Where will they be recruited from? Describe your informed consent (and with minors assent) process).
Procedure: how the study will be carried out (This should be step by step. Explain your procedures precisely and simply as if someone has never done these things before – this is so if your study needs to be replicated, it can be because you have laid it out properly).
Research design, including independent variable(s) and dependent variable(s) (Be clear about WHICH research design you chose and EXPLAIN WHY that design is best; clearly identify your independent and dependent variables).
Instrumentation/data collection methods (including data collection time points, reliability and validity – Describe the specific measurements (instruments) to be used to test each hypothesis (research question). INCLUDE information on the reliability and validity of these instruments, using the proper terms (what TYPE of reliability and validity for example).
This is a clearer understanding of what is required in your Methods section for the outlines and proposals. If you have ANY questions, please feel free to reply to this message or send me a private message. I’m HAPPY to help folks!
