Write a policy paper recommending a fiscal or monetary policy to whoever will be president in January or to the Federal Reserve Chairman. The policy should address the economic downturn we are still facing from the pandemic. I understand you might not have an answer, but your economic training so far should give you an insight on what the government can do and what these actions mean for the economy in the short-term vs. long-term.
Detailed Guidelines
Your essay must be between 800 to 1000 words, cover an outline of the policy (who it helps/what are the future repercussions), include a graph, and an argument for why this policy matters (this last part should follow a normative argument, which can be your own opinion).
Similarly, to the first paper, your final submission will be graded on two main domains – structure and content. See the grading rubric below for more detail on what is required for an “A” paper. A good paper will have a central argument, articulate evidence, and at least one graph or chart. A specific style/formatting guide is not mandated, however, be consistent with one style guideline throughout your paper.
As part of your final grade on this assignment you will need to submit an introduction/thesis and an outline prior to submitting the final paper. Each will be a completion grade if you are germane to the topic and follow these guidelines:
- Your introduction needs to discuss a problem framed as a “deficit” or “excess” issue.
- g.: There is an excess of unemployment, particularly for service workers and workers with low-education attainment.
- There is a deficit of income for service workers who can find a job because of the government regulations limiting restaurants from operating at full capacity.
- There is a deficit of revenue for local governments because the shut-downs decreased government revenue and cities incurred new expenses during the pandemic.
- Your introduction is targeted at one person that you are trying to convince to adopt a policy position.
- Your outline will be free,e., everyone gets a 100 for existing. Yay.

Your best source of economic data is the St. Louis Federal Reserve bank at https://fred.stlouisfed.org I also encourage you to explore their blog at https://fredblog.stlouisfed.org/ where they cover in a few paragraphs what the latest economic indicators mean for the economy.
